E-mailing is the major reasons to opt for an iPhone or any other smartphone. The first thing which you would like to do after buying an iPhone is to setup your e-mail account so that you can start sending and receiving e-mails without any hassle. However, your wait for sending mail could be longer if you don’t know how to setup your email account. By going through this article you can quickly understand the steps you are required to setup the e-mail account successfully in one go. Before you start setting up the account you must know certain things without which you won’t be able to do this successfully. However, this is an easy task but the dearth of appropriate information can make it look complex.

You must know the following before you setup your mail account on iPhone:

Which e-mail account do you have? Is it a Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail or some other account?

Your complete e-mail ID

Remember if your mail account is not on Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo or AOL then you should also know the username and password. In most of the cases your user name is your complete e-mail ID like peter555@gmail. but sometimes it is just the text appearing before @ sign. If you are not aware of the ID or password then you need to contact your e-mail service provider through e-mail and get your password reset or ID retrieved.

Again, if your e-mail account is not from Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo or AOL you require to confirm about your incoming mail server (IMAP or POP) as well as outgoing mail server (SMTP). In case you fail to confirm them you have to contact the service provider.

Once you have gathered all the information mentioned above follow the below mentioned step-by-step instruction:

Steps to setup e-mail account on your iPhone

First of all open the ‘Settings’ on your phone

Now tap on the tab ‘Mail, contacts, calendar’ that appears after opening the Settings

Here you have to tap on ‘Add account’

Now you need to choose the account you want to add like Gmail, Yahoo or AOL

Adding an account is very simple if you have your account on Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo or AOL. You have to just enter your name, e-mail address and password followed by a tap on ‘Add.’ If your account is one of the mentioned above then Congrats! Your account has been added.

But if your account is other than those you need to select the ‘Other’ option.

Once you tapped on ‘Other’ a lot of options will appear before you from which you need to select ‘Add mail account’ and ignore the others

Again start entering your name, e-mail ID and password. You can also add little description about your account. Once you finish doing this tap on ‘Next’ to move to the next level.

After you get on to the next screen you need to choose between IMAP or POP. This depends upon the incoming server used by your e-mail service provider. Due to this reason you are required to obtain information about the incoming and outgoing server type from your e-mail service provider. You will find IMAP as the default server type.

After you select either IMAP or POP, you will see your name and e-mail address that you had entered in the last screen. You will also find the host name (IMAP or POP) in the incoming mail server section with a blankuser name field. Here you have to enter the username.

You need to repeat the same in the outgoing mail server field (SMTP) and then tap on ‘Next’

In the next step, you will be asked to select the kind of information you would like to be with your account. Mostly you get options like Mail and Notes. Mail options remains turned on by default and Note option remains off. If you also want to add Note to your account you need to slide it down to turn on the Note.

Here comes the final step. Tap on the ‘Save’ button and you have now setup your e-mail account successfully on your iPhone.
