One thing you should think about is creating your own digital product like “How to Keep Your Great Dane or Saint Bernard Out of the Bedroom and Off the Bed.” Many writers make good money writing e-books quite similar to this. They are selling information to a specific niche. When I think of a niche I think of a large shopping mall. When I walk down the aisles heading for one of the anchor stores, I almost bump into little kiosh that sell telephone, cases, sun glasses, lipstick, whatever. Each one is selling one item or type of item to a niche group, perhaps teenagers who like fancy sun glasses, or young girls, etc. I haven't seen one that is catering to an old man like me but we don't have everything here in Idaho.
But a niche could be stamp collectors or more specifically, stamp collectors who collect stamps issued befor 1489 in Paris. And it could be a group of people with a dog problem. My sister and her husband had a Saint Bernard which stole a pot roast off the kitchen table when they lived in Montana. She would have purchased any e-book with the title, “What Caliber Rifle Does it Take to Kill a Saint Bernard?” (Note to animal activist: I'm just kidding.)
To publish your own e-book I suggest ClickBank. You can write an e-book and sell it from your web site but if you want lots of sales, then use ClickBank or a similar site. They will add your e-book to their library (that means they will approve it), place it in their marketplace, and expose it to a multitude of affiliates who will try to sell it on the Internet. You can sell if for full price from your site but selling it through affiliates and giving them half the price will make you richer faster.
The first thing you need to do to write your own e- book (or software) is to make sure that you have the expertise to writer it. You will want it to be as perfect as possible. Make sure your grammar, punctuation, and spelling are correct. Have your book in a well-organized form using headings and subheadings as needed. You may also want to cite other sources of information on the subject. You may want to hire a writer to put your expertise in words that people like me can understand.
The gurus are always writing or borrowing e-books to give a way. These e-books are full of affiliate links enticing the reader to click on a link. Don't do that with your e-book. Firstly, I doubt that ClickBank would accept such a book. Secondly, no affiliate will want to handle it. Affiliates do purchase and use what they sell. (At least the successful ones.)
Once you find a hot subject you can add related e-books and place them on ClickBank or some other site. Every time I write about this topic, I kick myself for not doing it. Some of the e-books on ClickBank have been selling steadily for years. So, why not go for it?
