We live comfortably at home with all appliances, entertainment facilities, and computerized equipment that uses electrical power. Let alone one day, power outage just a few moments alone will make us upset. Living without electricity for most people is an inconvenience. But most of all, electrical energy plays important role towards economic sustainability. No matter how much advanced technology invested and the amount of funds has been spent to generate electric power. And business in the energy sector brings significant benefits. We’ll soon know how much natural resources are exploited for electrical energy needs.

In fact, all the power generating equipment has a low efficiency below 50% for the thermal type, which means that the total energy output produced less than half the energy input required. Most of the conventional power plants with fossil fuels, generate thermal energy to boil water in the boiler. The high pressurized water vapor produced will rotate the steam turbine shaft that drive electric generator. Naturally, heat can be easily absorbed by surrounding air and directly becoming wasted energy, and that's what happened there that made the generation efficiency is low.

Furthermore, losses are experienced when electrical power is transmitted. Some electrical energy will be absorbed on the electrical equipment and conductor in the form of heat. Misread or less accurate reading of electricity meters also have contribution to losses that should be taken in account as well. And last but not least is the use of electrical energy itself that is not wise. This could happen in the end users in homes, offices, shopping malls, industries, and so forth. The good news is now many people realize the importance to find ways of saving energy at home as well as where they move.

People also began to seek alternative sources of electrical energy which is not solely dependent on supply from the grid only. Photovoltaic solar panels and windmill generator is an example of producing electrical energy that has been implemented. Solar panels power system is more suitable for a limited scope, such as office buildings and houses and still not intended to produce electricity that will supply large-capacity networks. The utilization of such renewable energy to generate electricity on a large-scale still requires a more comprehensive study.

There are a lot of ways of saving energy at home, such as installing photovoltaic solar panels as an alternative source of electrical energy that can be relied upon. Solar panels as used for a limited scope and separated from the grid does not require a long transmission line from the source to the point of the user. This is one advantage of it where no power losses during the delivery of electric power. However, up to now the efficiency of solar panels is no better than conventional plants, but it be said that there is no energy wasted in conversion process because sunlight is unlimited energy.

As long as you can manage the use of electrical energy from solar panels and the grid, you will obtain the optimum cost of electric power consumption. The initial investment cost required to install solar panels is recouped by a reduction in electricity bills after some time. Next, you just enjoy the monthly cost reductions. That’s one of the ways of saving energy at home.
