There are two categories when it comes to what types of solar panels are available and the first category deals with the materials that solar panels are constructed from.
Monocrystalline
Solar panels that are made of monocrystalline contain silicon in a large crystal form. The cells in this material are very effective at absorbing sunlight. They are deemed effective because of the rate at which the cells are able to convert the sunlight into electricity. The best part is that they are able to do this in conditions of low light that other panels cannot. This makes monocrystalline solar panels more expensive than other solar panels available today.
Polycrystalline
Polycrystalline panels are a very commonly used form of solar panels available today in the market. This material cost less to produce than monocrystalline however its drawback is that it is less efficient. It is constructed of many smaller silicon crystals rather than one large crystal such as monocrystalline.
Amorphous
These types of solar panels resemble a thin film constructed of melted silicon spread out over a large steel plate. They are inexpensive to manufacture and the least efficient of the other two types. These panels are commonly used in RV and marine applications because they can operate in low light areas.
Solar Panel Application Types:
Solar roof tiles
These tiles when installed will give your home a sleek modern look. They are very energy-efficient however they are expensive to purchase as well as install.
Roof mounted panels
Roof mounted solar panels can be purchased in a variety of styles. They are a versatile and functional product when compared to the other available solar systems. Installing these panels on your roof will not require any alterations to your roof. Additionally many people say it is beneficial to the roof as the solar panels help to protect it from severe weather.
Ground mounted panels
Finally, we come to ground mounted solar panels. These panels are installed and intended to be stationary and are usually only necessary when energy is needed on a larger scale. They can be purchased with optional motors that will rotate the panel to the direction of the sun, thus increasing its overall efficiency.
These are just a few of the solar panels available to you and you will have to make a decision based on the size of your home and how much energy you need to produce. Solar panels are a viable and economic way to save money on your power bill.
