What is a Wind Turbine?
A wind turbine can be referred to in many different terms. Sometimes a wind turbine is called a windmill or it could be called a wind generator. You could refer to a wind turbine as any of these terms it don' make a lot of difference people know what you mean. The wind turbine turns wind energy into mechanical power or electric power. When it is converted to mechanical power it can pump water or grind grains. A wind turbine can make electricity with the aid of a generator.
There ar different types of wind turbines. They are mainly put into two types of classifications.
1. Horizontal turbines: In the horizontal axis turbine the blades rotate horizontally.
2. Vertical turbines: In the vertical axis turbine the blades rotate virtically.
The most common wind turbine is the horizontal axis turbine. The horizontal axis turbine is more efficent then the vertical axix turbine.
There advantages of installing a wind turbine so lets look at the advantages.
1. Power saving is one advantage: We save on wind turbines because wind turbines use a free energy source which is the wind. They deliver a cost effective way of generating electrical power. They make a power saving for the power grid.
2. Another advantage is it is cost effective: The initial cost is the only cost because it don't use any fuel. It gets its energy from wind which is free other then that there be a low maintainence cost.
3. A third advantage is it is environmentally frinedly: Wind turbines do not emit any harmful gases from burninf fossil fuels so it do not affect the environment.
4. Also another advantage is that it has uninterrupted power: Wind turbines help you generate power that is independent of the commerical grid. This way you are not affected by commerical power failures.
When you consider installing a wind turbine there are certain things you have to think about. While you are making a contribution to the global power shortage you have to make sure to install it correctly. You have to take into consideration certain factors.
1. Make sure you have a large enough area to install the wind turbine an area of one acre.
2. Make sure your wind speed is at least eleven miles per hour.
3. You have sure that the base and the tower is solid and sturdy construction. It is important to consider strong winds before you construct your tower because win damage to your tower and wind turbune could be expensive.
4. make sure that your tower is a proper hight and there is no obstructions in the winds path.
Make power at home with windmills and solar panels energy to eliminate your power bill.
