Did we ever believe we would see the high gas prices that we are seeing today? It has not been that long ago in fact back in 1999 when gasoline was selling for .79 cents per gallon. I am 57 and still have memories of when I was a child and gas was .19 a gallon, The stations would be having gas wars to see which one could earn the customer's business. How I long for those days.
President Obama believes we should curb our dependence on gasoline and refuses to authorize drilling that could help free up gas which in turn would bring the prices down. I for one don't see why we don't start using some of our American resources and stop depending so much on foreign oil.
If the car manufacturers could share their knowledge and start making electric cars more efficient, in fact there is a car called Tesla that gets between 230 and 300 miles on a charge. The only problem is the price is quite steep on this vehicle. The car manufacturers should get together and make quality electric cars that would be affordable to the average American. Then if the President wanted to lessen dependency on gasoline he could take some of the subsidies being given to the oil industry and put them towards bringing down production costs pf the electric cars.
Some of these subsidies could be used to give to the American people to entice them to buy the electric cars.
On the Tesla cars there is no need to wait until the battery goes down to recharge, ypu simply plug up the car in the evening when you come home. There is no specialty installed equipment in order The charger is on board the car to charge your Tesla. It can be plugged in anywhere and in any outlet. The car is fully charged after just a few hours
The new model S goes from 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds, goes 300 miles on a charge and has 0 emissions. Review of this model shows starting price of this model start at $49,900. However they have to be ordered and it is showing deliveries begin mid 2012. They really are nice looking vehicles.
So if the car manufacturers could come together and build an electric vehicle along the lines of the Tesla, and bring the price down to where the average American could afford them we would see our dependency on gas diminish and in turn the gas prices would be drastically lowered due to less demand.
