There are many of us who make the decision to go from employed to self employed based on last minute decisions and how we feel about our current career or place of employment. It's not always that easy to do because it isn't always appropriate. Before you make a major decision like that, you should always consider many different factors about being self employed to determine if it's really a move that you're willing to make.
Moving from employed to self employed can be a challenging one for those who have a dim view of what it really means to be working for yourself. It doesn't just mean that you're making a ton of money, have free time to do what it is that you want to do and sitting back relaxing while the dough rolls in. That's a view that many potential entrepreneurs have and sadly, they believe it can happen just with a click of a magical button. Many have been fooled into thinking that all they have to buy is a cleaning business or purchase a salon and all of their problems are solved. Many of those individuals never take the time out to consider if they are actually a good fit for that potential field or if they have what it takes me an entrepreneur.
For most folks, their ideas of entrepreneurialism is based on this big picture of the American Dream and making that a reality. They hear many stories about the poor Italian family that came to America and went from rags to riches. They base their idea of success on the guy who created a computer in his basement that turned into a multi-billion dollar industry. Many of these individuals only see the glory in the success and not the hard work that it took to get there. It's a very unfortunate shoe to be in because they have no real idea of how hard it is to work for yourself and really make it.
True, the hard work and dedication will get you there in the long run but that's not all it takes. Also, it must be understood that what works for one will not work for everyone. Each person needs to decide if they are willing to put in the time, risk their savings and investments, and potentially work for free in order to build something that will be a successful, sustainable business that they can depend on to support their families or situations. Many business fail based on the absence of due diligence and research and analyzing ones personal goals, as well as capabilities to do what it takes to succeed.
So when you make the decision to go from employed to self employed, make sure you analyze whether or not you are willing to make the risk. Ensure that you know what your responsibilities would be and that they align with your lifestyle and current responsibilities. Don't fall for all the dreams being sold from just purchasing a franchise of some sort and watching the money fall out the sky.
Everyday tons of people make the decision to go from employed to self employed and find themselves overwhelmed with the lack of information that is provided initially. It's true that some people have been able to come out on top and quickly but those are in the lucky 2 percent. There are also some who didn't do their homework, didn't get lucky, but learned from their mistakes the hard way and succeeded in the end. The others who have built a successful business with a strong foundation have done their homework prior to getting started. By analyzing everything early on, you will be able to avoid many of pitfalls of many new inexperienced, entrepreneurs.
