Nursing Entrepreneur Ideas

Most nursing students and nurses think of their career as one in which they will always work for someone else, either a hospital, doctor's office, school district, insurance company or other such company. However, it is possible to start your own business as a nurse and still use your nursing degree. All it takes is some brainstorming to come up with some great nursing entrepreneur ideas.

If you are still a nursing student or thinking of becoming one, one of the best decisions you could make is to take some business classes along with your nursing classes. You may not be interested in going into business for yourself now but in a few years, you may be tired of working endlessly to make other people rich. The dream of being your own boss might become your focus and you will be glad you had some of those business classes to help you in figuring out how you need to go about starting your own business.

The following are some possible nursing entrepreneur ideas:

Nurse Inventor: As a nurse you will come across situations in which you need a tool of some sort and that tool does not exist. So what do you do? Invent it! Many different inventions have come from nurses who came up with ideas to help them in their career or to help a patient overcome a problem.

Legal Nurse Consultant: Many law offices deal with medical malpractice lawsuits and need nurses to help them with chart review, research and at times even a medical expert witness in court. If you decide to go this direction, taking some classes in legal nurse consulting is a good thing to look into.

Adult Daycare Provider: With people living longer and longer and the baby boomer generation reaching retirement age, there is an increasing need for adult daycare providers. As a nurse, you would be a prime candidate for an adult daycare provider for someone who was needing assistance with an aging parent or relative during the day while they are at work. You could start small, even in your own home or open a full daycare in another location and hire additional staff to help you.

These are just a few nursing entrepreneur ideas. As a nurse, you will face many challenges and work in so many different areas that you will eventually find that ideas will fall in your lap. You may just need to open your eyes to see what those opportunities can bring. You may discover that as an OB nurse, you can offer education and assistance to new mothers or as a medical surgical nurse you can offer private duty assistance after a hospital stay. Each nurse is going to have her own career knowledge to help further her ability to become an excellent nursing entrepreneur.
