One American dream and I assume the dream of many in other countries, is to have a business they can work from home. Many people are running businesses from their home. Others are putting the keywords, "small business in home" or "home business" into the search box of their browser hoping to make their dream a reality.
That is a good start. What I mean is that taking action is a good start. All great things come from our dreams if we have the faith to take the actions that make dreams realities. So if you think, small business in home, long enough that it spurs you to action, then you will be able to start a home business.
Many types of businesses can be operated from your home. Professional people work out of their home offices all the time--accountants, attorneys, engineers, chiropractors and others. So do skilled people like locksmiths, photographers, artists, writers, notary republics, secretaries, billers, telephone operators. You name it. Someone is probably doing it from their home.
When we lived in New Jersey our Chinese neighbor sold electrical generators and other such equipment. (I always remember him looking at my black Labrador, Zipper. He would say, "What a nice dog." I swear his mouth was watering. In Korea I saw many a dog hanging in the Marketplace and two docs we kept with our company we had to watch all the time to keep them from being stolen by ROK soldiers. By the way, all the dogs I saw in Korea looked like Chows except they were not vicious like the Chows in the United States.)
Manufacturer's reps almost always work out of their homes and they cover a lot of ground. They sell industrial and agricultural equipment and materials, chemicals, minerals and services. You will find listings for manufacturer's reps on the Internet and in trade magazines.
Real estate is an area of interest for work-at-home people. Some buy, repair, and rent or buy and resale (flip). Some find second mortgages and buy and sell them. It is a broad field with a lot of options.
Now days many use the computer to conduct a home business. These are affiliate marketers selling other people's products, folks selling their own products or as dealers, writers, people filling out surveys, email marketers, social site marketers, and many others.
If you have and existing home or storefront business and are not using the Internet, you are missing out on a great opportunity. We have some friends who sold doll parts but their business didn't really grow until they created a website and sold on the net.
Because of the wide appeal and searchers entering "small business in home" and other such keywords in their search box, there are scammers on the Internet ready to pounce on the unwary. Stay away from those crooked gurus and find honest people to guide you. Use forums and such to meet others who have similar interest. But beware, the gurus lurk on forums too.
Don't forget local sources when you are looking for an in-home or other small business. Contact your banker, business people, and educational institutions. Your state will have consultants available to help you at no charge.
The more you know, the faster you will grow.
