Imagine a labyrinth. When you are inside, it is difficult to find the exit. But if you have the possibility to take a look from above, it will be easy for you to see which the right direction is.
Becoming capable to see the big picture is the secret of starting and running a successful business. In business school they’re naming it ‘helicopter view’.
The helicopter view is the very first thing anyone willing to become a successful entrepreneur must learn when getting started in any business being it offline or online, big or small.
Let’s make an exercise.
Change your perspective and imagine yourself flying above the Internet. What do you see?
You can see a huge network formed by a big number of other interconnected networks of hardware components, computers and communication channels allowing people to stock and retrieve information, and communicate among them.
Behind computers you can see people, real people that before the internet age were communicating through telephone or fax lines and who were being informed through old media channels.
Now imagine how your business in this big picture looks like. In this huge network you are a node that communicates with a number of other nodes (your business prospects) using specific tools.
You have something clear and useful to tell and deliver to these people and they are ready to listen to you.
Your business is there to do that. The better you’ll do it, the higher your reward will be.
The internet era is now taking communication and interaction at a level never experienced before.
Businesses have now opportunities which never existed to effectively communicate with and relate to their customers. That’s why to start an online business is easy and accessible for many people today.
But it is very important for you to keep in mind that clarity about your business and about your life in general is your key success factor.
You have to form the habit of looking at everything you intend to do from the ‘outside’ perspective.
Being always ‘inside’ misleads you. You keep looking to details and tend to react to changes occurred instead of anticipating change and preparing for it.
Not being very clear about the direction your business should take, you assume the risk of spreading your resources in several directions instead of focusing on what is really important for your business.
Keeping permanently in mind the outside perspective will always help you to take the right decisions.
That’s why is very important for you to learn, practice and apply the big picture perspective in everything you do.
