The current presidential race in the United States is centered somewhat on the wealthy and the middle class. President Obama is focusing on protecting the interest of the middle class. He says the rich pay too little taxes and cites Warren Buffets remarks about paying too little taxes and the other rich folks that support Mr. Buffet’s position. Buffet is among the richest people in the world.
Governor Mitt Romney, who Obama says was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, believes that overtaxing the rich is not the solution to our economic ills. He says that President Obama knows little about economics and has messed up the recovery.
Obama retorts that the economy is recovering, that his actions were a big help to the states (as verified by our Republican Governor here in Idaho), and that Romney was not in favor of the auto industry bailout which (like the Chrysler bailout) was successful.
It is very tiresome.
Romney says that the President is making us another Greece by his actions.
The focus is on the rich man versus the middle-class president. Americans are wealth minded and they want to stay the richest people in the world. Most Americans would like to be on the list of the richest people in the world. That’s why they play the big jackpot lotteries. Both Romney and President Obama want America to return to its productive past.
The financial rigor of our country was brought about by visionary capitalist who were able to manage capital, people and new ideas into a machine that started rolling and could not be stopped. John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Andrew Carnegie, Pierpont Morgan, J. Edgar Thompson and others created new industries that changed the landscape of America. Foundatons from some of these Gentlemen are still pouring money into our society for good.
Like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffet, these early pioneers worked long hours to build their empires. Today, Warren Buffet has combined with Bill Gates to help resolve world problems. There comes a responsibility with wealth which means that it must be shared with others. The world would be a different place without them.
So, the wealthy strengthen our economy by providing jobs and products and they then take that wealth and solve societal problems.
I’ve know a number of millionaires on a daily basis. They don’t think about money the way most of us do. If a person hits the lottery, the money is usually gone in one year. Millionaires that give millions to charity may drive a low-priced car and walk to work. New Jersey has many blueberry millionaires and they are simply farmers harvesting berries and they do not flaunt their wealth.
To make money in this world, you need to find a problem and then solve it. If you can’t find a problem, then you must show a need that is not being fulfilled and you must convince some group they have that need. I swore that at 80 years old I would never have a cell phone. Now I can’t live without the darn thing.
When my father was born and raised in the pioneer west, he had no car, electricity, telephone or cotton candy. There was no car at our house or telephone until I was about twelve years old. We got an electric refrigerator about two years later. I remember pulling a uncooperative wagon my dad had made with ice for the ice box. It was over a mile round trip and the ice was half melted by the time I got home, the 75 pounds down to about 50 pounds.
The Second World War brought new opportunities. One man started making wood burning stoves for army barracks. He saw an opportunity and he took it. Later he was able to give full time to church service.
I know not a few people who have become wealthy working on the Internet. They are not reinventing the wheel, but they are applying sound business practices to Internet Marketing.
It is best for those who want to be among the richest people in the world to look for opportunity. It can be much more productive than the lottery. You may have to learn new procedures and change your way of thinking, but life can be good for those who do not wait for Lady Luck but make their own luck.
Fly Old Glory!
Good article! Nicely done. The richest people in the world have a big responsibility, so it is wise that some make good on that. To those to whom much has been given, much is expected... and when we take the opportunity to use our time, talent and treasure wisely we can go make a difference in many ways.
