When Does Luck And Opportunity Meet?

Is It Luck that Makes Someone A Success?

There are millions of people who can sing, who are very intelligent, and have enormous talent but the percentage of ones that become a great success are small in comparison. I am sure many people have thought the same thing as I have, is it hard work of course, but is italso a large amount of luck? I did some research on the most famous success stories of entrepreneurs that we have all heard plenty about. I wanted to see what they did different since all of us had dreams since we were young are becoming successful.

Richard Branson and Virgin Records

Mr. Branson has his own blog and he gives advice to people who are trying to start their own businesses. "Be prepared to fail". He will go on to tell us that not all businesses are going to succeed, that you may fail more than once when starting a business however you learn from those failures, take the mistakes you made from them and use them as experience as you go on with your next venture. Do not be afraid to take risks. He started young opening a record shop in London and then decided on the Virgin record company, little by little signing on different rock groups taking on the risk that the groups and himself would make it big. We all know how it turned out, he now owns over 200 companies in over 200 countries, he also gives back by his approaches to social and environmental issues. Luck maybe, lots of work, great instinct and risking taking that worked out is my guest.

Michael and Jay Arrington, Harper Arrington Publishing and Media

These brothers had the vision and determination to keep at it even though there were failures as well for them in the beginning. They now sell software and books to adults and children, schools and businesses. They were on their last $1,000.00 when they started their company that finally became a success for them. They give back by offering their business strategies and encouragement to young people who could become the next entrepreneurs.

Bill Gates and The Microsoft Empire

Bill Gates started to get interested in computer technology at a young age. His parents wanted him to go to law school. He went to a high school in the early seventies that actually was advanced in the beginnings of the computer world and had more to offer in the field than most high schools in the country. Luck? Hmm, maybe just a little. Getting on with the story, he installed a program into a national computer system that caused it to crash. He found himself in serious trouble and not allowed to touch a computer for the rest of that academic year. Imagine the humiliation and despair he must have felt but it didn't stop him from pursuing his vision and his passion for the world of technology. He had a good friend his future partner Paul Allen and they made plans for college and he helped Mr. Allen to write a scheduling program for a school computer. Mr. Gates was attending Harvard when an article in Popular Mechanics regarding a story on Altair a micro computer changed his life forever. I will call this opportunity, having a hunch and yes a little bit of luck all merged together. Eventually Mr. Gates and Mr. Allen as we all know started Microsoft and the success was just a dream come true.

So What is the Answer?

If you went further into Mr. Gates story he worked day and night and barely ate forming his company, it didn't just all fall into place instantly. Not any of these successful people did not have a taste of failure at one point or another nor did they give up. Let's face it not everyone has the determination in them to keep believing in themselves and working at their dream. Sometimes life gets in the way, they give up, don't have the self esteem or or determination it takes to keep on going. A mentor also helps if you are lucky enough to find one. In conclusion I believe it's work and luck in the sense that you see an opportunity that even comes during a bad situation and you seize the moment and go for it letting nothing get in the way. Another old saying comes to mind I am not sure of the first person who spoke these words, when the student is ready the teacher will appear.
