I think that most of us at one time or another have had a dream about being able to work at home. There are working at home advantages as well as disadvantages, personally I think one heavily outweighs the other.
I used to hate commuting to and from work when I lived in the city - the early morning hustle and bustle on the tram and the early evening rush to get back home. It's because of this that I find one of the most important working at home advantages is the money you spend on commuting. It does not matter whether you are shelling out for bus, train or tram tickets or paying your own petrol every day - it soon adds up at the end of each week.
Another of the working at home advantages that people seem to forget about is food. What do I mean by this? Well most of us like to have something to look forward to whilst in work. For me it was lunchtime, it split the day up nicely. But I would not have been so happy if I was tucking into a packed lunch every day - I needed to go out and get some nice food inside me. Doing this five days a week soon adds up - believe me!
I know this sounds a little far fetched but ever since I have started to work from home my health has got much better. I put this down to the fact that I am introduced to less bacteria and virus's when at home as opposed to being stuck on a bus/tram or in the office with people coughing left right and center. So another of the working at home advantages that I find important is the fact that you are much less likely to fall ill.
I need positive vibes and thoughts to produce good work, it sounds a little touchy but work does suffer because of this. I found that there was a lot of negativity in the workplace with certain people. There's nothing wrong with banter but I found a lot of people would do anything to put other people down and cause a bit of a tense atmosphere. This was no good for me and I knew a lot of other co-workers agreed with me.
Whilst there are plenty of working at home advantages there are those people out there that love the interaction with other people on a day to day basis - chatting and so forth. It's up to the individual at the end of the day, each to their own! I know what I prefer.
