Building the Ultimate Survival Bug Out Bag - Essentials

Building the ultimate survival bug out bag requires a lot of time, patience and perseverance on your part. You are going to have to be innovate, strategic and be willing to think "outside of the box". There are many items that you should have, and some items you should not have. Knowing what not to have is just as important as knowing what you should have. Knowing what not to have will save space, time, money and efficiency when setting up or bugging out with your survival bug out bag.

Let us take a look at a few areas that you should focus on when building your bug out bag for "pure survival":

  • Food

You need some type of emergency food. While freeze-dried food is a good option, it is geared primarily toward "comfort" rather than pure survival. For pure survival, you should look in to getting some emergency 3,600 calorie bars. You can purchase these from Mainstay or Datrex. They have a 25 year shelf life and are shipped compact in an air-tight sealed bag.

  • Water

Having some emergency water can be a life saver. You can either purchase "Aqua Blox", which has a long shelf life and is one again air-tight. You can look in to obtaining some water "packets", but they do not provide much water. When all else fails, simply keeping a water bottle in your bag is better than nothing. Just be sure you store the water in your bag and your bag in a cool dry area.

  • Water Filter

While having emergency water is a great start, you must have a water filter, as well. You will run out of your emergency water, and when that happens you will need to use your water filter on questionable water sources (lakes, streams, rivers, etc.) in order to make it clean and safe for drinking. This is an absolute must for your bug out bag, so do not skip this or try to find any type of "cheap" alternative. Get the best you can afford.

  • Medical Kit

Unless you have a good amount of first aid or medical knowledge and/or training, try to stick with a basic first aid kit. The first aid kit should provide you with a series of different bandages, wraps, splints, cleaning solutions, pain killers and medication solutions such as creams and ointments. This may not seem necessary, but getting a minor cut when you're exposed to the elements with little to no hygiene, any cut like this could be potentially life threatening.

This is a basic list to build the ultimate bug out bag for "pure survival". This is not going to be for comfort, it is going to be used in order for you to survive at least 72 hours if/when bugging out. This takes time, patience and perseverance on your part.

You need to have an idea in mind of where to start when it comes to building your bug out bag.

If you're a seasoned prepper, then you need to learn the necessary skills in order to survive in almost any situation.

If you're not preparing to survive, you're preparing to be a victim. Prepare to survive and be safe.
