It all began in 2013 when the Borough of Camden realized the scale of the waste complication in the area. The premier concerns that triggered the launch of the extraordinary successful campaign were mostly littering, dog-fouling and fly-tipping. Camden’s proactive citizens took some great advantage of the on-line forms for reporting such unpleasant examples of waste disposal and more than 100 cases were solved.
Achievements
As a result of the socially responsible attitude from the residents in Camden a great improvement has been made regarding refuse disposal. People who had dropped cigarette butts and were seen and reported have been given an 80-pound-fee for that. A total of 1350 notices of that kind have been made which significantly reduced the number of cigarette butts on the street.
The area from Hampsted Town to Bloomsbury was very popular for its black waste bags. It was obvious to everyone passing by that they were dumped irresponsibly and no one actually took the responsibility. After the campaign there’s been a staggering improvement which can’t be unseen - it’s now much more enjoyable to walk there without worrying about unpleasant smells.
The initiative turned out to have had a strong impact on the reduction of fly-tipping in Camden as well. 65 business waste offence were prosecuted in 2013 and that surely terrified everyone in the business field who produces rubbish. That lead to slight economy improvement due to the increased usage of paid rubbish removal services.
What happened to the money that was raised from the fees?
Don’t worry, everything is perfectly fine with it. The local government of Camden once again proved that fighting against waste is profitable and the income of it will promote the idea of cleaner Camden just like you might have predicted.
Community clean-ups are on the schedule and everyone who supports the idea is welcome to take part in the event. Litter-picking and working on community gardens are part of the programme that is going to help Camden turn into a leader in making cleaning campaigns successful. Just pay attention to any posters in the area that will inform you about the upcoming events and spread the idea around other volunteers who aim for better life standard.
If you become a witness of someone who is making an attempt to spoil the campaign and is somehow working against the borough’s attempts of cleaner area you should immediately give a call on this line and report what you’ve seen - 020 7974 444
Everything starts from the household
It’s a wide-known fact that before the cleaning campaign rubbish was literally everywhere on Camden’s streets. There were news informing us for more than a million pounds that were spend on the fight with fly-tipping. Much of this rubbish was produced in the homes of the ordinary Camden householders and the reason for that is mostly the mindless attitude towards the potential dangers posed by the household waste. When that is discarded periodically on the street it is endangering animals, and more importantly, kids who interact with it if there isn’t an adult around them.
A simple rubbish collection service in Camden can eliminate all your concerns about the waste in your home. Rubbish removal is the most convenient solution if you’re busy and can’t deal with the refuse at your home on your own. Instead of fly-tipping it or throwing it on the street in small parts, collect it and let it be loaded and driven to the recycle center by professionals.
