Gardening for Survival

How important is food to you? If you're concerned about your survival, food should be incredibly important. As a prepper or survivalist, what would you do if the food supply to your local stores suddenly stopped? Would you be able to survive? You may be able to survive for a short period of time, but not permanently.

What is your plan?

In order to be truly self-sustainable, you must be able to feed yourself and your family for an unlimited amount of time. Many believe that once things get bad, they will simply run into the forest and hunt or go to their local lake and start fishing. This sounds like a great plan, except for the fact that everyone else will be doing exactly the same thing.

If this is your plan, you need to do some serious reconsideration. There is only a limited supply of animals to hunt or fish to catch. However, by having a high amount of seeds on-hand and an extensive amount of knowledge about how to grow your own food, you can literally have a continuous supply of food.

Growing Potential

There is much growing potential to be made for your own garden. When we think of gardening we may think of it as a hobby for someone who is retired or who has a lot of time in his/her hands. This could not be any further form the truth. Gardening, while a great hobby, can also be incredibly useful for your survival. Who can cut off the supply of your own food if you grow it in your own controlled environment?

The usefulness of gardening for your survival spreads beyond having a continuous supply of food. With a garden to maintain, it gives people not only something to do, but it gives everyone the feeling of being useful. Maintaining and improving upon a garden also provides a sense of "healing" by experiencing plants and food that is growing, while many things around you may be dying.

Summary

If you have not considered growing your own garden yet, this is something you need to not only consider, but act upon. Free-dried food, frozen food and other types of "survival" food is only going to last you for so long, not to mention it is highly processed. With your own garden, your chances of survival substantially increase.

Having not only a continuous supply of food, but fresh food that you yourself have controlled allows you to have more comfort, freedom and piece of mind knowing it is not heavily processed and will always provide you and your family with food to survive almost indefinitely.
