The Girl Loves The Horse

That's how it is for us horse-lovers. For the love of a horse we will do anything to learn more and connect more with them.

To an outsider it may seem dangerous and fool-hardy.  "You might better buy a 4-wheeler or a motorcycle.  All you have to do with them is turn the key."  I've been told this more than once by non-horse people.  Well, motorcycles and 4-wheelers are great.  But they don't neigh in the night - or any other time - when they see you.  Motorcycles and 4-wheelers aren't alive.  They are machines.  Having a relationship with a horse is a bond no words can describe fully.

So, to the non-horse folk out there I say, please enjoy your hobby or career - whatever it may be.  We horse-folk will enjoy ours.  Why, some of us enjoy horses, 4-wheelers AND motorcycles!  The point is that, once you have connected with that creature with the powerful legs, strong muscles, great strength, and a willingness to trust you will begin to know what lies ahead for you and the horse.  The potential of a partnership that will grow and develop directly in proportion to your willingness to become a sane and just leader for the horse has no limits.

I'm not trying to say here that horses are better.  I'm just saying the relationship we feel with them is real and is valid.  Like many horse people, I dreamed of horses as long as I can remember, and like many horse people I did not realize my dream of owning my own horse until I reached my forties.

I have developed many horse-folk friends over the years.  Some are western riders like myself and mostly like to trail ride.  Some are English riders who love to do the jumps.  Some have older retired horses out in their pastures they never ride, but their love for horses is no less.  Some, like me, utilize what is natural horsemanship as developed over the years by the many fine horsemen and horsewoman out there.  They include names such as Clinton Anderson, Ray Hunt, Gordon McKinlay, Stacey Westfall, Bill Dorrance, Buck Brannaman, Chris Cox, and the list goes on and on.  Other horse-folk utilize other methods that work for them and their horses.

The world of horses is truly an amazing one.  They have long served man, and in this new time we find ourselves in it seems man is in the service of his horse as well.  It is a partnership worth experiencing.  It is an experience I invite you to enter into if you so choose.  It is well worth the ride.

- Happy Trails
