When a person gets a job, he imagines and hopes that he will be successful. He imagines being involved in many workplace projects, being invited to speak at conferences, and then, after some time, getting a long-awaited promotion. If he is lucky, his job turns out this way. There are times, however, when a job does not go so well, and a person may be fired.
One reason he may be fired is if he steals from the company. Cashiers might steal money out of their register, for example. Other types of employees may steal supplies, such as pens, paper clips, or paper. Regardless of what a person steals, stealing is a crime. A person who steals from his company should be fired, because he is doing something wrong. Because the company will have to place an order to replace the supplies that were stolen, he is also costing the company money.
Another fireable offense is deliberately injuring a coworker, such as by splashing him with hot grease. Hot grease creates a serious burn. The burn victim should seek medical attention.
A third reason that a person would likely be fired is if he is disrespectful to his supervisor. He might talk back to his supervisor or refuse to do what he is asked to do, for example. He would be fired in this situation because everyone deserves to be treated with respect and because not doing one's job slows down business for the entire company. A company wants employees who are going to respect others and do their jobs. Those who are disrespectful or who do not do their jobs will be fired and replaced.
There are also industry-specific situations in which a person would be fired, such as if an employee of a pet store was giving an animal a bath and walked away from the tub while the animal was in the water. The animal could drown. This type of situation puts the animal in danger, and an employee who engages in this type of irresponsible behavior should be fired.
A person should not be fired for looking good. Many people are unhappy with the way they look. Regardless of how they actually look, they look in the mirror and see something they do not like--a person who is too fat or too thin, for example. These perceptions may cause a person to develop an eating disorder. One who looks good and is happy with the way he looks is able to go on with his life. He can succeed at what he is doing, whether he is a student, an employee, a blogger, or some other professional, without being preoccupied with his body.
I get a strong sense that the real story here is the one you aren't writing. What prompted this humorous exploration of normal firing causes, ending with a seeming non-sequitur about not firing good-looking people? Very funny, regardless--thanks, Hollie
I saw a headline about a lady who was fired for being "too hot". I thought that was a strange reason to fire someone, and it got me thinking of reasons why people could be fired. Thanks for reading. :)
