And when its brisk walking, great can transform into amazing as fast as your first step out of your Doha home. Check out these 5 amazing benefits of brisk walking.

No strain, more gain

Running, despite its benefits, can cause wear and tear injuries—to ankles, knees and joints—especially when you’re a bit older. Walking, despite being brisk, does not have the repetitive stress caused by running. It makes you fit without the strain. You won’t get the swelling or aches typically associated to high intensity exercises. Just don’t overdo it.

Walk the pounds off

Walking to lose weight seems like one of those weird contraptions you see on television. You strap it on, just sit and watch television and watch the fat melt. However, it’s true. Walking (and not the contraption) can help you lose weight. According to studies, you can burn over 350 calories in an hour when walking. And that’s just walking. Brisk walking is a bit more intense, so expect to lose a lot more. Does losing 350-500 calories seem small to you? Think about this: if you brisk walk for five days a week, imagine how many calories you’ll be losing in six months or a year? Yes, brisk walking plus math is awesome.

Keeps your heart strong

Brisk walking is cardio. That means its great exercise for your heart. A stronger thumper means you’ll reduce the risk of heart diseases.

Love your feet. Walking seems like a ‘light’ exercise, but don’t take your feet for granted. Show them some love since you’re going to be relying on them. Make sure they are well protected and comfortable. Choose light, flexible, breathable walking shoes. If you’re new to exercise footwear, it’s good to start with Reebok footwear. Always observe the proper form. You may think that walking, brisk or otherwise, ‘is just walking’ but it does have a correct technique which should be followed to prevent injury and maximize exercise benefits. First is to stand straight, but relaxed. No need to be rigid. Your head should be level—not looking up or looking on the ground. Shoulders should be squared but relaxed.
