7 Tips To Get A Beach Body This Summer

Summer is just around the corner, and like most people in Qatar and around the world, you want that beach body to flaunt. However, that is easier said than done, especially if you’ve been neglecting your health during the previous seasons. But don’t worry, there are tips to get you the beach body you want this summer.

Water the fat down

Water is hands down the best drink on the planet. It rehydrates and refreshes your system. Energizes you even. According to studies, drinking more water, aside from the usual 7 glasses you should drink everyday helps torch the fat. Drink a glass of water when you wake up in the morning to reinvigorate your body, which has been deprived of fluids for hours. Another glass before a meal to prevent you from over eating. Forget the sodas (even the diet ones), store-bought fruit juices and energy drinks. These drinks are basically ‘liquid calories’ and contains a ridiculous amount of sugar.

Ditch the diet

Did the heading just say ‘ditch the diet’? Yes, it did. But that doesn’t mean you can eat whatever you want, as much as you want. Diets fail because they restrict you too much. And it causes a lack of emotional investment on the part of most people. What’s the best thing to do? Eat smart. Lessen your portions. Substitute complex carbs like whole wheat and brown rice for refined ones like white bread, white rice and pasta. Add spices instead of salt for flavor. Feed your sweet tooth with fresh fruits and ditch the ice cream, candy bars and goodies. You can have them as a treat once a week, in small portions. The important thing is you develop a healthy habit—not a false one, like a diet—so you’re both physically and emotionally invested… And no fast food!

Do the math

Now that you know how to eat smart, you need to add some math to that. Okay, relax, this is just really basic math. Just addition. Okay here we go—eat 3 meals a day. Every meal eat two vegetables or fruits. Then when you crave for a snack, eat a fruit or a vegetable. Remember 3 (meal) + 2 (servings of fruits or veggies) + 1 = 7. That’s the magic equation which will help you add more fiber, minerals and nutrients to your diet… and possibly lead to another number which amount to several inches off your waistline.

Be on the go

For most people who sit in front of a desktop all day, or for people whose only physical challenge every day is to catch the elevator, extra movement is key to fitness. A sedentary lifestyle can easily add the pounds. Be on the go by adding small movements to your life. Instead of the elevator, take the stairs. If you’re on the higher floors, get off the elevator and take two or three flights down to get some exercise. Perform stretches during lunch breaks or ankles raises as you sit. At home, do chores, stand instead of sitting, walk around. The points is don’t stay sedentary. Extra movement, no matter how small they are, burns calories, exercises muscles.

Crank up the cardio

You can’t spot reduce fat. No matter how many crunches you do, that waistline isn’t going to shrink. Since you already know what to eat and you’ve made a conscious effort to move, the next best thing is to crank up the cardio. Cardiovascular exercise pumps up your heart and muscle. But that’s’ not all, it also cranks up your metabolism. Even after cardio you continue to burn calories (neat right?).

Use your weight

Your problem is your extra weight. You don’t want to look like a tanned muffin when you wear your trunks at the beach this summer. The best thing to do? Use it that weight. If you’re like some people who dislike going to the gym or lifting weights, use your body weight. Push-ups, squats, triceps dips are just some of the bodyweight exercises you can do. Get some shut eye

Finally, get enough sleep. People who sleep less than seven hours are not just sluggish, but they compensate by drinking liquid calories (like too much coffee with milk and sugar) and eat sweets for a boost. Regular lack of sleep also slows down your metabolism, making it harder to slim down. So get enough sleep. Throw in a nap while you’re at it.
