Does P90x Work for Overweight People?

P90X has been an amazing victory not only of marketing but in the weight loss industry as a whole. Beachbody CEO, Carl Daikeler could not possibly have foresaw the wild, runaway success of this total body program led by Tony Horton when it was released. It has been sold in virtually every country of the world and the success in terms of both money earned for the company and pounds lost by the participants has been staggering. There are always questions about how well a program might work, especially for certain people. P90X brings up a number of those questions as well.

So, does P90X work for overweight people or not? The simplest answer is "that depends". If you think that a ninety day program is going to give you the extraordinary results you see documented in pictures on the web site, you are probably in for a bit of a disappointment. If you approach the program with the right attitude and the right frame of mind then yes, it does work and works very well. Depending on how overweight you are the success that you have might mean that you are going to get closer to a more normal weight or to better health. That success can allow you to do another round of P90X, concentrating on more weight loss and toning or even to move on to another program that you might not have been able to handle at a higher weight.

It is important that overweight people, especially those who are new to intense exercise or exercise in general take it easy when they are starting out. Listen to the cues that are given throughout every workout. Tony Horton himself often reminds home users that the people on screen have done the program for ninety days or more or are professional athletes and that if you need to take a break, do so. He even adds that if you need to hit the pause button, you have that option as well. There is no shame in modifying movements and every workout has a modified option demonstrated by another exerciser on screen.

Do not make a mistake: this is a very difficult program. There are some very intense moves in some of the programs, including plyometrics or jump training. Because these moves are very hard on the knees and ankles this might be the program that needs the most modification especially in the beginning when they are new and when the weight is at its highest.

I am so glad someone wrote a realistic review on P90X. I have the program and I am new to aerobics and realized very quickly I needed to modify this program dramatically. No I am not terrilby overweight but my stamina is something left to be desired and in terrible need of improvement. Thanks again for the review.
