Have you been feeling sluggish, slower, older of late. Well as we all know there are apparently only two things we can't avoid in this life of ours........growing old and tax. You know if you have the right accountant or financial advisor you can reduce your tax....right? Well what about 'Growing Old'?
There are ways you can fight the ageing feeling and start to feel younger , and a major combatant is EXERCISE!
I am certain most of you have seen the Before and After photos of people who have lost a large amount of weight. In the After photos you would have to agree the person looks much healthier and I think you would have to agree they also look much Younger. So..... exercising helps you to look younger, YES? Of course it does.
A lot of us love our sports. If you play sport then you will know this; too long away from the game and your body and mind lose touch. Your body gets used to your lifestyle. If you play golf a couple of times a week, your body gets tuned to swinging the golf club, walking the course, swimming in the dam (hahaaa just joking about the dam ok ok). But seriously your body becomes tuned to how you live your life. If you love your "Call of Duty" video game and you spend 20, 30, 40 hours plus a week playing video games, your body will become tuned to that lifestyle. Sure you will be giving your fingers, hands, and maybe your forearms a bit of a workout but that's about it.
So to stay looking younger you need to keep yourself in good physical shape and shed the excess body fat by enhancing your lean body mass. To do this you need to target the larger muscle groups and hit the full body workout. The large muscle areas include the chest, the back, and the legs. By working the larger muscle groups you will also be hitting the smaller muscle groups like your arms.
An ideal exercise to hit all the big muscle groups is the deadlift, another is the clean and press. In these exercises you are getting maximum body movement. You are shifting the weight, either a barbell or dumbbells from the floor to above your head. Another advantage of this movement if done correctly is the strengthening of your core, your abdomen area.
One of the most basic, and definitely my favourite exercise is the bench press. Everybody knows this one. Fantastic exercise for building the chest, the shoulders, and the arms. Here again I always engage my core muscles when lifting. You don't have to start with heavy weights. Start with lighter weights and aim for 10-15 repetitions. Do 4-5 sets. When this weight becomes too easy, then add more. Work at your own pace.
Both the above routines will help to build your lean body mass. Both routines will create a residual effect on your metabolism. By this I mean your metabolism will stay elevated for a longer period even after you have finished training. This effect, depending on how intense your workout is, may last 1-2 days. A faster more efficient metabolism will help burn off that excess fat and get you on your way to feeling and looking younger.
If you don't like jogging, then don't do it. If you don't like riding a pushbike, then don't do it. Find some aerobic exercise you do like. It may even be a game of tennis a couple of times a week. If you don't enjoy doing some routines it will be so much more difficult to keep at it. Enjoy a brisk walk up the beach, do some laps of the pool.
Keeping fit and healthy shouldn't have to be a chore. Stay focused, stay positive, and you will find yourself well on the way to feeling good, feeling Younger, looking good and looking younger.
Following the advice and routines as above will help you to discover the secrets to looking younger than you really are.
