There are are variety of ways to help improve your jumping ability, but the sole program would have to be plyometrics. It is a combination of exercises that use strength and speed evolutions. I have experienced with a variety of diffent exercises to improve jumping, and have always depended heavily on plyometrics.
Exercises to Improve Jumping
Single Leg Squats - (3 sets of 10) standing on one leg you will squat down with a controlled and balanced movement. The goal is to get low as possible, but I would recommend gradually getting lower over time. I would also begin working with just bodyweight and as you become more comfortable you can start using weights.
Deadlift - (3 sets of 10) you will use choose the appropriate weight bar of your choice. Standing vertical you will pick up the bar, keeping your back as straight as possible, concentrate on using your leg muscles. It is vital that you do not lift dependently with your back, this can lead to serious injuries.
Vertical Jumps - (3 sets of 5) In my view this is one of the most important exercises you must include in your workout program. You need to pick an object to aim for that is relatively high. I prefer using the wall method, identify some type of mark to aim for. You should take a few steps towards the wall, bend down and take an explosive leap upwards.
Exercises to improve jumping is built on strength, endurance, and cardio training. Plyometrics is a great workout program that includes all of this and will aid in improving your jumping and speed ability. Another important component that I always stress is that you should be using a combination of different workout programs.
