Fitness Buddy, Can They Help Us Stay Motivated to Keep Moving?!?

Fitness Buddy! Where are you!?! Do you ever have a hard time staying motivated when it comes time to exercise? Instead of looking forward to exercising, it becomes more of a chore. You know that you need to workout and that you want to, but there are so many other things that you can find to do instead...does any of this sound familiar? Sure does to me...!!

Well, I have a solution. Now, it's not some crazy new idea, just giving a friendly reminder of something easy to do to stay motivated. Ok, drum roll please.....find a fitness buddy or buddies!! I think this is one of the easiest ways to get that little nudge or the motivation you need to get moving, because now somebody is holding you accountable to yourself and them. Pretty crazy, right?!? No, not really, but it is something that a lot of people don't consider. Us humans don't like letting people down, so we're much more inclined to stick with the program.

And, I practice what I preach. I have a fitness buddy, actually two. There have been many days, too many to count, where I wasn't in the mood to workout. And guess what? My buddies were there to get me moving in the right direction. And the same has gone for them some days too. We made some goals and promised each other that there would be no excuses and we would help each other reach our health destination....step by motivational step.

If you take a moment to look around, maybe at work, at church, or even just by talking to one of your neighbors, I know that you'll be able to find somebody that is looking to do the same thing as you. Find some common ground as to what you want to do and make it happen. You can do it! You might even find that several people would love to join in on your motivational exercise journey.

My exercise buddies and I recently took a line-dancing class together. It was so much fun, although we weren't the best. But it didn't matter. I know that I wouldn't have stayed committed to it without them. And, by the way, I can do the Electric Slide now...lol! In case you wanted to know!! The sky's the limit as far as what you can do together. We enjoy walking, so that's what we do. But, there's a whole world of exercise fun out there waiting for you and your fitness buddy. Here's a list of a few other activities that my buddies and I have done.....kickboxing, tennis (I am terrible, by the way), but it's still fun with my fitness buddies, going to the batting cages, swimming and we've even done some fitness games on my son's Kinect attached to his Xbox. Still trying to figure out how kids can make it look so easy?!? Mix it up if you want or stick with just one thing. You're in control.

The real point here is to get your fitness buddy and get going. Hold each other accountable and stick to it. We all have times when we don't want to do something, but with a little nudge or a big push we can do it. And the funny thing is for me, those days that I wasn't too excited about our workout, were some of my best workout days ever...they weren't tennis days, of course!!!

And one more thing, it never hurts to ask your husband/wife or significant other to buddy-up with you. I mean, who doesn't want their mate to look their best? I know I do... I'm thrilled to say that my husband can't keep up with me anymore. I think he needs to find a buddy too...8-)
