Five Reasons to Get A Bike And Start Biking!

Riding a bike can be some of the fun and most liberating times in your life. For many people it brings back nostalgic feelings of the past, of memories of childhood, family, and friends. They are valuable assets and you can pick one up for $50 to $100 buxs. So why should you get a bike?

1. A bike will help you save on gas.

Have you seen the prices in gas lately? If you're looking to save money, this is a place you may want to start with. When smaller tasks need to be done such as running to the store or going to the library, a bicycle can be your best friend. Also it makes it easier to ride public transportation because you can reach the stops sooner, and you may even be able to cut down on your public transit time.

2. Lose weight

I have known many individuals who have lost weight using a bike to get around. Everything in the universe is made up of energy, and if you have some excess potential energy (such as excess fat that is waiting to be used and burned!), then put that to use. No need to burn gas, just move that...well you know the rest!

3. Great for cross training

Maybe your a superb athlete or an extremely fit martial artist who doesn't need to "lose a few pounds". Ok, no problem, how about a little cross training? Bicycling can be great for the quads and legs in general. If you've hit a plateau in your training regimen, why not try adding biking in your daily routine?

4. Freedom and a sense of feeling alive

Riding a bike can give you a great sense of free will as well as an invigorating sense of being alive. So many of us remain slouched in an office, maybe being yelled at by the boss for this or that, or just bored to death and feeling completely under utilized. Riding a bike gives us a feeling of flying, as said by a good friend of mine. More than that, I believe that humans enjoy movements and the manipulation of physics in many directions, hence maybe a reason why some people are into roller coasters and sky diving. So get out there and fly!

5. Learn a lesson in safety

When you're on a bike it is very important to follow the rules of the road. Remember to always wear a helmet! I'm surprised on how many people I see that tend to ride without one. I've had one or two close calls, as well as witnessed a woman get hit with a car without wearing a safety helmet, and let me tell you she is very lucky she didn’t crack her head. Trust me, go to your local department store, order one from online, just spend that $10 - $20 and protect your dome.

All in all, have fun, be safe, and get rolling!

Carlo, I like your thinking! I just got myself and the wife bikes for this summer season. We live on some of the best bike trails around that wind through the bluffs. I am rehabbing my knee right now but hope to be riding soon.

A great activity for all ages and all fitness levels. We enjoy going as a family and playground hop along the way. We all have fun and it's easy for everyone to keep up.
