How to Burn Fat During Exercise

Everyone hopes to burn fat as they exercise. Because dropping those extra pounds won’t be a complete victory if there is still a layer of fat around the waistline. So as we work out the goal is that the body will be burning fat as well as calories. Getting back in shape depends upon it.

The body burns different fuels during various types of exercise. Knowing what causes the body to burn one particular fuel over another can help you to choose workouts that will target those pudgy layers of fat.

The body burns fat at moderate levels of intensity during a workout. If the workout, however, becomes too intense (for you), the body stops burning fat and starts burning glycogen. When the body burns glycogen, it stores fat. If this type of conditioning is done repeatedly it causes numerous health problems.

When the body’s supply of glycogen gets really low, your metabolism will start using blood sugar as a secondary fuel. This causes a host of other problems. Now the nervous system does not have all the blood sugar that it requires. The result of this can be headaches, stiff joints, circulation problems, etc.

Sometimes people will make too many demands on their body by attempting to “catch up” on becoming fit again. Overly strenuous workouts only cause a negative reaction in the body. Forget the “no pain, no gain” adage. It can do serious harm. You should build yourself up gradually for physical fitness. Remember, you didn’t get out of shape overnight and attempting to immediately get back in shape is putting you at risk for injury and fatigue.

Getting back in shape gradually also allows the body to increase its capacity for oxygen. Every cell in the body needs oxygen and the experts say we have about 75 trillion cells. When they are flooded with oxygen we have an abundance of energy and vitality.

Also, don’t forget to include a warm-up before exercising. It has multiple benefits. Warming up allows more blood to be delivered to the muscles. It speeds up the breakdown of fatty acids and glucose. It makes muscles more elastic.

Burning fat is easy with the right kind of exercise. Keep these facts in mind as you plan your workouts and you’ll be in shape in no time.

I had forgotten that your body stops burning fat if you do overly strenuous exercise. Many of us have a tendency to think that if moderate exercise is good for you, then going for maximum exertion will be great; not true according to your excellent article. Thanks for the valuable insights!
