Jumping Ability - Exercises To Improve Jumping

The ability to jump higher is possible with the right exercises and conditioning. I want to help you achieve your goal of jumping higher, it is imperative that you are doing the correct exercises to improve jumping. I will discuss some of the tactics that have helped me and recommend some alternatives.

Exercises to improve jumping can be an easy task if done appropriately. You will notice that the ability to jump higher is concentrating on speed, endurance, coordination and cardio. I'm not just referring to running speed, you must teach your muscles to react with speed. This will help you to make fast movements in any direction.

Most people believe that jumping skills are just natural, that is a myth. As a teenager I could not even touch the rim of basketball goal, I have since almost doubled my jump height. One type of workout I have depended heavily on is plyometrics. Plyometrics is based on exercises to improve jumping, it uses a set of muscle groups for a short period of time.

One of the tactics that I stress is that you combine different type of workouts into your routine: plyometrics, jump training, strength training, cardio training, resistance training, etc. The variety of exercises to improve jumping that are available will all be beneficial to you. I would encourage you to try different types of exercises and identify which ones work best for you.

Alright, lets check out a few exercises to help you improve your jumping ability:

Calf Raise and Leg Squats - are always great exercises to begin with, this will create some power in your legs. This can both be done without weights, but I would recommend gradually moving towards weights.

Rhythmic Squat Jumps - you will basically be doing a squat but when you come up you will leap up into the air as high as you can. It is important when coming up to throw your hands up towards the ceiling to help you leap. You must be sure to make a soft landing, your knees will thank you.  

Jump Rope Training - this will be very beneficial to your jump training. You should use a combination of techniques from alternating legs and dual legs. I hope this information helps you on your path of increasing your jumping ability. This has given you a little insight on what to expect of vertical jump training. Exercises to improve jumping can be challenging but rewarding once you see the results.
