I was reminded yesterday how important it is to mix up your workouts. You see, I ran about a mile and I could not believe how difficult it was. I used to run a lot, but I have been focusing on improving my strength with kettlebell workouts.
Practical programs for strength training have to encompass a wide range of activities. This is true for a lot of reasons. First, if you focus on just one discipline, you will get bored, frustrated, and lose your enthusiasm. Don’t let working out become mundane! If you go to the gym and hop on the treadmill for an hour every day, you will tend to get bored and quit. Not to mention the fact that you risk repetitive stress injuries.
Second, your conditioning for other activities will be diminished. My running ability suffered when I focused on just the kettlebell. I now have an enthusiastic goal of decreasing my mile time to under six minutes. And since I enjoy using the kettlebell, I will appreciate more the days that I workout with the kettlebell.
Finally, you have to fit your workout into where you are and what you are doing. If you are traveling and staying in a hotel, you won’t have access to your normal equipment. So do you use that as an excuse to not workout? I hope not! Take the opportunity to mix it up! Go for a walk or run the steps. Do push ups, stretches, or yoga.
Practical programs for strength training require some imagination and planning. I like to create a chart. There are countless way to mix up your workouts, so I am going to give you some ideas based on the following activites: Running, calisthenics, yoga, and kettlebell. Based on how much time you have, you can mix it up based on a workout session, day, or week. There are some examples in the table that you can access in the link below.
There are countless other ways to mix it up. The idea is to trick your body up by changing the workout activities on a regular basis. Practical programs for strength trainingfit into your schedule and don’t require a lot of equipment. The exercises listed in the table only require a kettlebell of appropriate weight for you, a pair of running shoes, and an pull up bar. Most Body weight exercises require no equipment at all.
If you are bored with your workouts, mix it up! It is the Practical thing to do!
