Running for Beginners

So starting up on running is not an easy task. It is not free either as it does take some equipment to hit the roads. If you have the money to start out I will recommend that you go to a store that can help you find the right running shoes from the start. Try to find a shoe shop dedicated for running athletes with a running machine and people who knows what they talk about. They will normally take a look how you are running and in that way find the perfect shoe for you.

Running is one of the best ways to train your fitness. It is effective and flexible and of cause it is free if you don’t count the price on the equipment. You don’t have to go to a fitness center you can simply use the roads.

To start running you would need a program to make sure that you have progress in your training. Planning such a program can be complex, but I will try to help you out a bit here.

First of all be realistic with your program but never without ambitions. Now as with a lot of other things than running, it is hard to say what point is the most important one. But one thing is for sure, you need to setup your goals and how to reach them. Without a goal in your training you will not have anything to look forward to. So it is logic that a goal is important to reach a result.

What could a typical goal be?

Well one goal could be to be a much faster runner. Another goal could be that within the next month, you want to run 3 days a week 3 miles per day. Point is that the goal you set is important to the structure of your running program. You should consider telling people your goals even though it might be a bit over the line for you; this is actually a great way to have others help you in archiving your goals.

Progression in your running

Just like strength training or bodybuilding you want to make sure your running is progressing. Progression could be running further or try to run the same distance only faster. Be aware that running does exhaust your body and it is well known that every fourth week should be for recovery.

When you are getting in shape and progressing fine with your program, you should consider signing up for some running events to boost the motivation and push your goals even further.

Now it is time for you to surf the internet for some great running programs, or maybe start building your own program and be sure to be realistic about your goals. I hope this has been informative for you, and I want to wish you good luck with getting in shape!

Gotta have a program to plan out and track progress with. I have chosen 2 x week 30mins on the treadmill and then 2 x week walking outdoors for 50 mins. Makes all the diffrence to have a schedule and structure. Cheers, good advice!

My kids just finished track for elementary aged kids. I can't believe how quickly they wore out their shoes! They had them for only a month or so. We are thinking about getting another pair for each of them and starting daily hikes now... are you a hiker with more tips? LOL :) Great article. I enjoyed it.
