What Is Circuit Training
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Circuit training is a combination of different exercises that include strength, endurance, cardiovascular, and weight training. It is a great way to work out the entire body in a single workout. I want to show you the different aspects of circuit training used across the world and give you a little insight into designing your own circuit training program

Many people ask me "what is circuit training"? The first point I make is that there is no strict guidelines with a circuit training program. The biggest advantage is you can do it with minimal equipment, or if you are really creative no equipment. The goal is to complete as many repetitions in each exercise as you can at a steady pace. In most cases, you can allow a 30 second rest period between exercises. You have to remember to monitor your heart rate, you don't want it to high or low. I won't go into detail on your target heart rate in this article, but you should know what you are aiming for.

Circuit training is a high intensity workout, so I would not recommend beginners start here. You should have a certain level of fitness and feel comfortable challenging your muscles and mind. Once you get about half way through the circuit, you are going to be spent, but you must find the urge to complete the circuit. You know your body more than anyone else, so you must know when it is time to stop.

Basic Circuit Training Example

1. Jog or walk up to 5 minutes, remember monitor your heart rate.

2. Jump rope for up to 1 minute

3. Lunges - use only body weight (weight use at your discretion), up to 1 minute

4. Jog or walk up to

5 minutes, remember monitor your heart rate. 5. Pushups - complete as many as you can aiming for 1 minute

6. Dips - find any object and do as many dips as you can aiming for 1 minute

7. Now, you are going to repeat the whole sequence

Note: take a 30 second break between exercises or the amount of time you feel comfortable with. Do not push yourself over your limit.

The next time you are asked what is circuit training, you should be able to answer with a little confidence. I only touched on the basics of circuit training today, but this should be enough information to get you started on your circuit training. Good luck on achieving a higher level of fitness.
