Should you buy nitro radio controlled cars or gas powered radio controlled cars? Whether you are deciding on which type of RC car you would like to purchase, or you would just like to know what the differences are, we will have a quick look at the comparisons between nitro radio controlled cars and gas powered radio control cars.

Size: The gas powered RC cars have a wide variety of large vehicles, such as the larger monster trucks and bigger scale vehicles. Nitro RC cars tend to be much smaller, and this gives them the advantage of speed, generally up to well over 80 miles per hour.

Fuel: First off, the most obvious difference between nitro radio controlled cars and gas powered remote controlled cars is the fuel. Nitro RC cars are run on a fuel commonly called nitromethane, whereas gas powered remote controlled cars run on gasoline. Gasoline is obviously a much more affordable fuel than nitro. Depending on how often you run your RC car, you can quickly add up costs for fuel over a short time.

Performance: Nitro radio controlled cars tend to come in various sizes and have a much higher stock performance than gas powered RC cars. They tend to run at much higher speeds than their gas counterparts; however, gas powered RC cars have a lot more power than nitro versions.

Maintenance: Nitro radio controlled cars require a lot more maintenance and tuning such as cleaning the air filter, cleaning the entire chassis and replacing parts more often as they become worn. It is not unlike owning a full sized vehicle, there is a great deal of room for purchasing better quality after market parts. Gas powered RC car motors do not require nearly as much tuning or maintenance and have a much longer life span than nitro motors.

Cost: Gas powered RC cars cost two to three times more than their nitro counterparts. If you are on a tight budget, the nitro version may be more suited to it.

Noise Factor: One of the main draw backs of running nitro radio controlled cars is the noise. If you are going to be operating your rc car in a residential neighborhood, you may soon find that your neighbors are none too happy with you.

Clubs: If you are interested in racing against other people in your locale, you will need to run the same types of RC cars as they do. Look into your local club and find out all the information you need regarding your car, including engine size, car size and fuel type before you make any purchases if you have your heart set on being a member of the club.

Many RC car enthusiasts have tried all different types of models and fuel type cars. They tend to favor one type over the other, eventually. It is a matter of personal preference as well as commitment, if you decide to purchase nitro, because you will need to perform the regular maintenance required to keep your RC car in top shape.
