Remote Control Petrol Cars - An Addictive Hobby

These days, remote control cars are not just for children. The new trend of remote control petrol cars as a hobby amongst adults is quickly becoming a craze. These fast little cars, trucks, airplanes and helicopters run on petrol instead of batteries and provide a great deal of action packed, exciting fun.

For many just starting out with remote control petrol cars, there is a desire to know as much as possible about the hobby. The first thing you will discover when you are looking into purchasing a remote control petrol car is that you are going to pay a great deal more for it than a battery operated car.

Remote control petrol cars contain a device called a “servo” which acts as both throttle and braking control. The servo spins which opens up the carburetor, mixing fuel with air and injecting it into the combustible engine. The action of the servo spinning in the opposite direction serves to engage the braking system. This is the simple concept behind the inner workings of a gas powered RC car.

RC cars run engines of between 12 to 21 cubic inches. These engines are similar to motorbike engines and are also a 2 stroke engine. These tiny little cars are about a 1/10 scale to a full size vehicle, but they can be purchased as large as a 1/5 scale. RC cars can reach speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, and they can be run for hours on end. In direct contrast, a battery operated RC car has a limited battery life and if you do not have an extra battery pack, it must be charged in between uses. The gas powered RC car only needs to be quickly refueled, allowing you to continue with hours of unlimited enjoyment.

There are a wide variety of RC Cars available, from very basic models, to much more complicated ones with many more working parts. Of course, the more expensive the car, the more options you will have, and the better quality of the parts. As people become more involved in the hobby, they tend to buy parts rather than whole cars, and assemble their own cars at home.

Clubs for Remote Control Petrol Cars are widespread across the country, where other RC enthusiasts gather to compare, show and race against other RC owners. Many of these clubs have organized competitions where you can showcase not only your latest model, but also your driving prowess and talents.
