The first thought that comes to most people’s minds when discussing remote control cars is a cheap looking plastic vehicle with a remote nearby, that moves quite slowly across a surface. In addition, you probably think about the consumption of many, many batteries and the fact that only kids play with RC cars, right?
Well, perhaps you have not heard of or seen remote control petrol cars. These vehicles come in various scales, such as 1/36 or “micro”, 1/18 “mini”, and 1/10, or 1/8 and now even 1/5. The main difference with remote control petrol cars is obviously the fact that they run on gasoline.
Remote control petrol cars have been designed for the little kid in all of us adults. First of all, most kids do not have the budget or the ability to buy remote control petrol cars. They may be taught to care for, maintain or clean the vehicle or even to assemble it; however, these vehicles were designed for adults, not children.
The fuels that go into these cars can be dangerous for kids, and so if you are going to allow your kids to play with your remote control petrol cars, you should ensure that you are keeping a close watch on them. In addition, you will need to be close by to assist with adding fuel to the vehicle when it runs out. Most adults will not let their children run their remote control petrol cars for these reasons, as well as the fact that the vehicles are quite expensive, so the more inexperienced driver could easily smash the vehicle into something, destroying it beyond repair.
Of course, the outer shell is not very expensive, but the chassis underneath is the main part of the vehicle, and if that is somehow damaged, it is probably going to be good for the garbage, and that is about it. If your child is really serious about owning their own remote control petrol cars, then they will need to learn the basics of driving a base model RC car before you invest big money in a larger model.
As your children grow older, though, you can teach them the ins and the outs of remote control petrol cars, and it can be a hobby that you enjoy, spending time together as a family. It is not recommended that you let your child run your RC car without your direct supervision. Of course, you will be so busy building, customizing, running and enjoying the vehicle, it is pretty safe to say that your child won’t have a chance to even touch the remote.
Since these cars are very fast and need a great deal of room, you may want to find a large parking lot or park where you can operate your vehicle, unimpeded. Many people are at first surprised that these remote control petrol cars are so powerful and fast, then they become addicted to them as a hobby. As you learn more about these RC cars, you will probably want to fully customize and/or build your own units.
