Disc golf courses are popping up all over the globe, and Trilogy disc golf is keeping pace. The US/Swedish connection of Dynamic Discs, Westside Discs, and Latitude 64 have become a major force in the disc golf world. Growth of the game is inevitable, the only question is when, how much, and who will be the driving force. Trilogy is leading the charge.
Disc Golf and Soccer?!?
In the last decade disc golf has exploded, much like soccer did in the 70′s. The game was in ruin after The Great Depression of the 30`s. The greatest offensive player in the game – Pele – signed with the New York Cosmos in 1975, creating a resurgence in America. More than 73,000 fans packed Giants Stadium to see the Cosmos win the decade old North American Soccer League Title in 1978.
Disc golf has the potential to be bigger than soccer in the US. The difference? One word – youth. The PDGA and EDGE (Educational Disc Golf Experience) have laid the foundation, now it is up to you and every other disc golfer out there to put a disc in a child’s hand, better yet, a school full of children.
Does disc golf have its own Pele? Some would say yes – Dave Feldberg. The former Innova Discs golfer joined Latitude 64 in 2013. Why leave the largest manufacturer in the sport? Simple, to grow the game. Feldberg is not far away from retirement and Latitude is poised to become the international manufacturer of choice. Different is not always better, but better is always different.
Dynamic Discs of Emporia, Kansas has the most popular new disc on the market, the Judge. Rusco and company made a splash in 2005 and have continued to expand, currently producing 9 disc in 4 different plastics – 8 counting all of the varieties. 2010 World Champion Eric McCabe has been an integral part of Dynamic’s success – touring, promoting, and winning a ton of events have lifted him to star status.
Westside Discs, the smallest of the Trilogy, is gaining traction with the help of one of the most charismatic disc golfers on tour, Gregg Barsby. Westside’s line-up includes 10 molds in 4 unique plastics If you have not listened to Barsby’s band, Our Own Blood, look him up on Facebook – but make sure your speakers are not turned up too loud.
Keep an eye out for Trilogy disc golf plastic – Dynamic Discs, Westside Discs, and Latitude 64 – at your local shop. The prices are reasonable, the plastic is top of the line, and the selection of the three rivals Innova Discs and Discraft Discs. The best part? They are very motivated to grow the game!
