When you think about remote control cars, you probably picture a bulky, cumbersome car with a prehistoric remote, that crawls along at slow speeds, and takes a massive amount of batteries. In fact, you are thinking you should have purchased shares in Energizer. Fast forward to 2011 and take a look at the latest RC cars – Remote control petrol cars. These cars are designed to perform. Of course, all RC cars have their pros and cons here is a list regarding remote control petrol cars:

Pros:

  • These vehicles run on two stroke gas, which is the same fuel commonly used inchainsaws, weedeaters and similar small engines. This means that fuel is bothinexpensive and plentiful. When you run out of fuel, you simply add more.
  • Battery operated RC cars require fresh batteries at regular intervals. The downtime can be substantial when you consider the removal of screws and fumbling around for fresh batteries.
  • The amount of time you get from one tank of gas is substantially more than a battery operated RC car.
  • Very little maintenance, tuning and/or cleaning is required, other than a general dirt clean up and refueling.
  • Can be driven outdoors, in many open spaces, courses, paths, parking lots, beaches, on dirt, snow, and rocks - your imagination is about your only limitation.
  • Battery operated RC cars are limited to indoor use.
  • Joining clubs is a great way to challenge yourself to become a better driver by entering into friendly competitions.

Cons:

  • The amount of space required to run remote control petrol cars is substantial; however, most people who live in small spaces, such as apartments enjoy getting out with their RC car anyway.
  • The replacement parts for remote control petrol cars tend to be more expensive; however, battery operated RC cars do not tend to give you any option to replace parts in any event.
  • These vehicles are extremely loud and noisy. It is not really something that you are going to want to operate in your own yard or even on the street in front of your house. You are going to need to find a location that is either industrial in nature (far away from homes) or secluded, such as a wide open green space.
  • The cost of these vehicles is pretty substantial when you compare it to what you would pay for a battery operated RC car; however, in exchange for a hefty price tag you are purchasing a vehicle that can be customized and does not take expensive batteries!

Whether you decide to purchase a toy grade RC car (battery operated) or a hobby grade

RC car – (gas or nitro), it is always a good idea to learn as much as you can about the features of each specific type of vehicle before you go ahead and start to shop for one. Decide if you want to operate your vehicle indoors (battery operated) or if you will travel to areas where you can operate it (remote control petrol cars) in wide open spaces.
