How To Raise Chickens In Your Backyard

Learning how to raise backyard chickens, I'm just guessing, is what you want to learn right? Well then your on the right page. Wanting to raise backyard chicken is completely normal and more people are doing it everyday. It maybe to save money on eggs, wanting some poultry, or simple as a pet. Having it just as a pet may not be the main reason for most people though, I think other house animals such as dogs and cats are the top choices, but a couple of folks out there that just want to have chickens in their backyard. So let's get started on what you should know first about raising chickens.

How to raise chickens in your backyard - What you should know:

1.) Do you know your local laws? Okay, So first off before you go out and buy anything. You should check with your local government to see if there are any laws restricting you from having chickens in your backyard. Different communities require different standards when raising backyard chickens. Some may not even allow it. So even if you see someone in your neighborhood raising chickens, don't assume its okay, they could be breaking the law. So just make sure before you get to invested in this project.

2.) Do you have enough space? Having enough space for your chicken to run around is critically if you want to raise chicken in you backyard. Two square feet of floor space and three square feet in outside run space is required for an adult chickens. If you plan on having a chicken coop the average height is around 3 feet. Other factors of space you might want to consider is how close you are to other people. You want to make your coop as far away from your neighbors so they do not complain about it or what you could do is ask your neighbors if they mind you raising chicken in the backyard. So rule number two, make sure you have adequate space before you buy any chickens. You don't want them to be cramped up and unhappy.

3.) Housing the chickens: Giving your chickens a house/coop to stay in is probably going to cost the most out of this project, but then again, its only a one time payment. When choosing a chicken coop their are a couple things you can choose. You can pick a pre-made coop or you can do it yourself and build a homemade chicken coop. A pre-made coop can run a couple hundred dollars, while making chicken coop plans yourself cost a fraction of the price with about the same amount of quality.

So, to sum it all up; learn you local laws, get enough space, and decided if you want a pre-made coop, or to build homemade chicken coop plans. After you learn do these steps, you are on your way to raising healthy chickens.
