Are you desperate to declutter your house fast? My clutter is like a bad rash that won't go away. But I finally got rid of it forever with my magical new tool. I call it the Feng Shui Trash Day and do it for nine days.
What is a Feng Shui Trash Day?
Isn't Feng Shui about wind chimes and superstitions? What does it have to do with clutter and trash? Well, yes, there are superstitions and also lots of time-tested ideas for bringing balance and good energy to your home. Feng Shui divides every home into nine areas as shown in the diagram: Knowledge, Career, Helpful People, Family, Health (your center), Children, Wealth, Reputation and Romantic Partners.
Good Feng Shui keeps enhances each area with congruent colors and objects to attract the matching energy such as Love, Money or Children. That's where it helps you declutter your house. All areas need to be kept free of dust, broken things and misplaced clutter so the qi force (energy) flows freely through your home to bring you every good thing.
What do I do on Feng Shui Trash Day?
Start on Day One. You're going to eliminate 27 things today and each day through Day 9. Start to declutter your house at the front door. You can do one area each day, work your way through all nine in a circle or take things out of each every day.
There aren't any rules and you can't do it wrong. Just make sure it's 27 every day. If you're like me, there were a lot more than 27! Just make sure they're out of the house! A Goodwill bag doesn't count until you drop it off.
Throw it away, give it away or return it (library, neighbor, store)
Day One is Basic Training for Feng Shui Trash Day. Walk through your home in search of "low-hanging fruit" like dead batteries, candy wrappers and broken stuff. The mother lodes are in pantries, bathrooms and closets.
Benefits of the Feng Shui Trash Day
You will declutter your house by Day Nine of Feng Shui Trash Day. Your drawers will all open, your desk will be clear, your closet will be a joy, you'll enjoy buried treasures found in the clutter and everything you no longer need is out of the house.
You'll be proud of yourself and your home. The newly cleared space brought me better things than I eliminated and more people to me, too. I got calls and emails from old friends I hadn't heard from in years.
Have some fun with this! I guarantee you will when you declutter your house with your own Feng Shui Trash Day.
Always wanted to understand more about Feng Shui. Will have to explore your sites.!
Good article informative, for those that can do it. My problem I will pick up here and deposit there in another area. hate to throw things away, as i don't have much.
Floods will do that, Rob. I am so sorry about that happening to you. Kinda makes you realize you can survive without so much stuff but on the other hand, losing things of sentimental value must be hard because you can't get them at a store. I would love to hear a story about your experience on this. I was caught in a category 5 hurricane once in Mexico and while it didn't affect me personally, it was devastating to see such destruction first hand.
