Dealing with a drab house? Want to lighten up the mood of your house? Well how about getting rid of negativity in your life? Well if this interest you keep on reading. So what is Feng Shui? Feng Shui is the Chinese system of geomancy(method of divination involving marks on the ground and how it relates to energy) that can do three things: Stop the flow of negativity, bring positivity into the house, or increase the flow of positivity (not the same as stopping the flow). It was once one of the most popular forms of divination throughout Africa and Europe.
Foundations of Feng Shui: Qi(chi)
Is a movable energy(either positive or negative) which plays a major role in Feng Shui.
Polarity
In almost every aspect of chinese cultures Ying and Yang play some role within it. Yang exerts a force and Ying receives said force. Ying and Yang is often talked about with the five elements, believed by the chinese to consist of: water, earth, metal, wood, and fire. Unlike the phsyical elements themselves these "elements" are considered to be the five essential forces of human life. Earth is considered to be the natural result of all the other elements coming in contact and canceling each other out.
The purpose of Feng Shui is to put the building, street, car or whatever object in line with the natural ying or yang that surrounds it. Along with the five elements there are also four cardinal points that deal with Feng Shui. The East(The Green Dragon/Spring Equinox); The South(The Red Phoenix/Summer Solistice); The West(The White Tiger/Autumn equinox); The North(The Dark Turtle/Winter Solistice). These four points are a much need asset to Feng Shui, they allow true alignment of the personal items to match up with the natural flow of energy. Think of this as finding a certain place on the map, and everything is divided into grids by the lines of longitude(which run east to west) and lines of latitude(running north and south).
Criticisms of Feng Shui
Traditional Feng Shui relies on the use of accurate reading in order to find the perfect spots for good chi. The problem with this is actually finding a compass or a similar device that will give us an actual true reading, with the electromagnetic field throwing off true north and magnetic north almost every moment it would be hard to find a true locatoin.
In 1949, Feng Shui was officially considered a superstitious practice as well as an evil of society and was thus outlawed under the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Awareness about Feng Shui is gathering momentum. The important thing is to enhance the chi flowing (or rather meandering) through our house.
