The 50 Shades of Grey novel is the first book in a trilogy of novels by the author E L James. When it was first published online it was originally supposed to be Twilight fan fiction and while James has created an entirely new set of novels the basis is the same.
The books are your typical love story, a boy meet girl plot but the difference with 50 Shades is that it is an erotic novel. Some are calling it Twilight for adults.
The two main characters in the book are Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The couple meet when Ana is talked into doing an interview with Christian, a brilliant although somewhat control freak billionaire. Ana is a college student on the verge of graduating and the only reason she agrees to interview him is because her best friend and room mate is ill.
Christian is worlds apart from Ana, where she is an inexperienced college student who has never even been drunk he is a very experienced, slightly older man with some unusual lifestyle choices. He is into a lifestyle of BDSM and has never had a real relationship in his life. His partners were always consenting, in fact they had to sign a contract to be with him but for him they were always just arrangements, not relationships.
Until he meets Ana. Somehow despite his best efforts to convince her to sign his contract, Ana is reluctant. They are both smitten with one another but the couple face a lot of issues if they want the relationship to work at all.
The pair need to both alter their preconceptions, since neither of the have been in a real relationship they have no idea what is normal and what isn't. They don't know how to be together and make it work but neither of them wants to be apart.
Needless to say the relationship between the pair is turbulent at the best of times, Christian finds it hard to not control Ana and Ana find's it hard to accept that he needs to control her. The novels in the 50 Shades trilogy follow the relationship of the couple who are polar opposites, but then opposites attract.
The 50 Shades of Grey books are very much a "can they get through this and make it work" romance with a BDSM twist that have captured the hearts of women throughout the world from your mom to your best friend.
