I'm going to assume that these days, most people know that the government issues grants to those who qualify. Thanks to late night infomercials and your local out of work neighborhood lawyer. People associate a lot of hype with getting a grant. So instead of me telling you about the various countless grants out there. I'd to just give you an overview.
Writing a grant proposal can be hard work. It takes time and resources. You need to decide on the type of grant you need. How are you going to apply for the grant. You must find the tools made available to you. Such as adobe reader. Make sure you download the correct application type. You must be registered before you can apply. Once you've submitted the application, tracking it is also important. When writing the application yourself this is difficult. But, its not impossible.
Writing and submitting a grant application is important for everyone. Anyone can be eligible to receive a grant. It makes no sense to leave money on the table. As you well know your business or education would thrive from a financial boost. And if you are a non profit group. You most certainly are effecting others by not taking advantage of every thing available to you.
When to apply will be solely up to the applicant. I suggest doing research in your own field. For example if I was in construction. And, I was applying for a small business grant. I would wait on submission until I felt like fewer applications were being submitted. This is just an example. There are many different ways to get your application noticed. Most of them are probably far better than my example. Don't wait until you are in absolute need of a grant. You should write a grant application as soon as you can. Use the grant for a boost instead of a bailout.
This is not a job application. You must be a little more professional. Always do the research required in your field. Remember a ton of tools are at your fingertips, use them. There are countless seminars and webinars you can find to help you along.
I simply chose to write my own. It saved me a lot of time and money. I did not have the time to attend these webinars or classes. Nor did I have the funds to pay someone to teach me something I could learn on my own. After looking over the information you will know if writing a grant is some thing you want to do for yourself.
