Aquarium Cleaning Isnt Such A Chore

When you speak to some people about this topic many will tell you how hard it is. The thing is aquarium cleaning isn't such chore. Once you have the right techniques in place it can become rather enjoyable. Also you get to see some of the results immediately which is always a nice feeling.

One of the main things that I have found with doing your daily/weekly cleaning is to get into a routine. Once you have one in place it will all seem so easy and effortless.

One good tip is that when you feed your fish to remember to clean out the excess food from the bottom. When I'm doing this I tend to spend that extra time hovering through the gravel to make sure it’s nice and clean.

After I tend to do my daily water checks. I do this now because the water is all stirred up so I get a decent reading of all the water, not just the top levels. Then I give the glass a quick clean with my magnetic glass scraper. This only takes a few extra minutes.

Just those 3 easy steps which I do everyday doesn't take longer than half an hour. Now you have the rest of your evening to do what you wish with.

The next stage is when it comes down to your weekly cleaning. I try to do this first thing on a Saturday morning. Getting the work done straight away so you don't need to worry about it until the following weekend.

I start with siphoning out my 20% water change using my Hoover. This in turn is giving the substrate a proper clean at the same time. I now do my filter maintenance, by this I mean cleaning the correct filter sponge. Some of the contents within your filter shouldn't be touched for months at a time, depending which type of filter you have. In some cases having to replace the one which needs it. I also at this time maybe every other week I give the motor and propeller a clean. Just to keep on top of it making sure that it never breaks down or clogs up. That's the last thing you would want to happen.

All these little things which you do now for you aquarium in the form of cleaning. Helps it out in the long run, not just for how amazing it looks but also for your fishes health. Instead of letting it getting on top of your self an extra 20 minutes a day will save you a lot of work in the future.

Once you've got into the routine with just these few tips aquarium cleaning won’t seem to become a household chore. There isn’t really a lot to it. Even your weekly tasks won’t take longer than an hour

I do find that as well especially if you get out the routine. Managing your tank to be easily maintained is a great tip. You will find the maintenance won't be as long and too much hard work.

I have never had the pleasure of owning an aquarium but I enjoy looking at them, especially the huge one's I've seen at restaurants and other venues. Is it expensive to maintain an aquarium?

It's not really that expensive to maintain them. In the first stages in can be depending on the size of your aquairum. You can't beat the feeling of keeping your own aquairum.

My grandfather had a humongous aquarium, it was so beautiful and I believe it contained tropical fish. That's why I asked about cost because I know you can purchase gigantic ones. Thanks for the info.

Your welcome I'm glad I could help. I love the look of huge tanks just wish I could fit a massive one in my house.

Good advice there. I certainly underestimated what was needed on cleaning my tank. I bought the biggest I could fit in the room but the work overwhelmed me. A good idea to start small, don't you think?

I can understand where your coming from as I did that a few years ago! I would advise starting on a smaller tank is a good idea, it gives you the upper hand once you move onto bigger tanks! With bigger tanks it is easier to manage to water conditions though. Did you down size in the end?
