Fishing Forums

Every fisherman I know is looking for an edge. They seek any equipment available to help them catch fish. They will spend huge sums of money on the supposedly hottest lure or newest fishing pole. They will buy the latest fish finder and latest GPS equipment. They will even buy a new boat if they think it will help them catch fish.

What they fail to realize is that information is King. Being over the fish at the right time with the right equipment is what makes for a great fishing experience. The easiest way to get this information is in your local fishing forums.

These forums are almost always made up of people who are actually out there doing the fishing. They will be reporting on where they are fishing, what bait or lures they are using, what depth the fish are concentrated at, what time of day is most productive and how they did on their outing. They will back this up with pictures of their catch and a few salty comments about their trip.

If you follow these forums on a regular basis, you will know when and where to go fishing. I follow two forums in my area which is the western basin of Lake Erie. If I am planning a fishing trip, I always spend time reading and communicating on the forums. The information gathered there can often make the difference between a ho hum day and a really great day of fishing.

Contrary to popular belief, most fishermen are very willing to share information about their latest trip and be honest about their catch. You will hear about the bad days as well as the good days. The good thing is that the information is current and pertinent to what you are doing. The camaraderie in the two forums I follow is a thing to behold. The comments can be tough and to the point but are rarely (and I do mean rarely) mean.

If you want to get in on the fishing forum action, it is as simple as doing a computer search for forums in your area. Take the time to read and follow several of the forums. Be social while there. Ask questions and make appropriate comments. You will find that most of the fishermen and fisherwomen are more than willing to help a newbie.

Once you find a couple forums you like, follow them on a regular basis. The information you get from them will make your next fishing trip a lot more productive.

Yeah John, I am new to Nova Scotia and I have picked up a few things on forums, but they are hard to find. The population of the province just about doubles in the summer so as soon as I put "NS" in a search I am bombarded with tourist crap. In some areas like this one Google fails miserably. Any advice on searching for local forums?
