Fishing Supplies

For me, going fishing needs to be the simplest task it can be, as it is usually a spur of the moment decision to go when the conditions are just right.

Having all of your fishing supplies organized and ready to go, so all you have to do is throw your gear in the car and know that when you get to your favorite fishing spot everything you need is right there.

A Little Preparation

If you are properly prepared, the only fishing supplies you should need to organize on the day is fresh bait (and maybe a couple of cold ones if your so inclined!), everything else can usually be organized and ready to go.

• Fishing rod or rods

• Reels and spare spools with various line classes

• Tackle box with plenty of hooks, sinkers, swivels and leader material

• An assortment of lures, soft plastics and jig heads if needed

• A sharp knife for cutting up bait and a filleting knife

• A scaling tool, lip grips and a landing net

Cleaning and maintenance

One of the simplest ways to make sure your gear is ready to go is with proper cleaning and maintenance each time you return from a day on the water.

This is also the ideal time to make a list of any of the tackle that you may be running low on, or take note of any gear malfunctions that you need to address before your next outing, while it is still fresh in your mind.

Fishing Rods

Before putting your rod away give it a thorough wash with fresh warm soapy water, check all the line guides for any damage, and if is a multiple piece rod, a squirt of lubricant on all the joints will make sure it goes together and comes apart easily.

Wash with clean water, replace any frayed or damage line and lubricate any moving parts with a water displacement spray like WD-40.

Give your knives a good clean and dry them thoroughly, there is nothing worse than finding your best knife all rusted up.

With my fishing tackle I will always have spare at home in a dry sealed container so that I can replace anything that I lost that day and not have to think about it later.

Other Gear

Don’t forget to wash down your landing net, lip grips and anything else that has moving parts or is prone to perish or cease up if left for a period of time without use.

Fishing is meant to be relaxing and enjoyable, so having all your fishing supplies organized and ready to go can make each time you get a chance to head out on the water as easy as possible.

Having your rods, reels, and all the other fishing tackle organized and ready to go won’t guarantee you any more chance of catching anything, but hey, that’s why they call it fishing!
