Lake Erie Fishing Report

It doesn’t matter if you are a new fisherman to Lake Erie or a seasoned veteran. Following a Lake Erie Fishing Report will save you time and money. For most of us Lake Erie is broken down into three primary fishing areas. Those areas are

The Eastern Basin which encompasses those waters east of Erie PA. These waters contain the deepest parts of Lake Erie and require different methods of fishing. Walleye and perch are available here but there are plenty of steelhead also.

The Central Basin which encompasses those waters from Huron OH east to Erie PA. While not as deep as the eastern basin still deeper than the western basin. This is the area the walleye head to during the fall migration. Trolling seems to be the preferred method for walleye.

The Western Basin which encompasses that area from far western Lake Erie to the Sandusky Oh area. This is the area that contains the Lake Erie Islands and the shallow reefs which are a favorite of the walleye. All three primary methods of walleye fishing are used here. Those are jigging, casting crank baits and trolling.

Each of these areas requires different fishing methods and the easiest way to find out what those methods are is to follow the numerous Lake Erie fishing reports. The reports can be obtained from various locations. The local bait stores are a good source of current information. The Charter Captains fishing reports are a great source of current fishing info. The state of Ohio publishes a weekly fishing report. All these are important sources for current fishing information.

There is another important source for fishing reports. That source is the fishing blogs. The authors of these blogs are usually dedicated fishermen. They scour all the local reports from weather to what color lures are most productive. They take this data and compile it in a comprehensive format which will save you valuable time and money.

Todays gasoline prices dictate knowledge of where the fish are and how they are being caught before you leave the dock. We have all been guilty of jumping in the boat and just heading out. Hoping to stop in an area where the fish are. Well I for one can’t afford that anymore. I will find a local blogger that posts current and accurate fishing information and I will check his blog every time before I leave the dock. If each of us did this imagine the resources that would be saved.
