What bait to fish with may seem like a simple thing but when catching the bit catfish you should put some thought into what will be the best bait to use. Different areas of the country had different types of fish bait available. Here are some of the most popular catfish bait. Surely some of these varieties of bait will be found in your area either at your local bait shop or even in your back yard.

Grasshoppers is a good place to start. They are usually hopping around on river banks and lake shores. They are easy to catch and catfish are attracted to the grasshopper. You can catch several and put them in a can just be sure to remove the jumper legs so when you open the can lid your grasshoppers bait will not jump out and get away.

Worms are always a good fish bait to catch catfish. Any variety of worms will work even your standard garden worms you can dig up in your own yard. If you are really interested in using worm for bait you can raise your own. A worm farm can be use for either fun or profit.

Perch and minnows are a great bait for catfish since they are usually found in the waters you are already fishing in. Any size of perch or minnow can be used as catfish bait. Of course, the larger perch bait fish should be used on either jug fishing or trot lines instead of rod and reels.

Bait Shrimp is a good idea and can usually be found in your local grocery and bait stores. It is a frozen bait and will need to have time to thaw before using. It can set in the sun and be ready in a couple of hour but after it sets out and gets really stinky it will be ready to start catching the big catfish.

Cut Bait is another good catfish bait. You should check your state laws to make sure which caught fish can be used as cut fish. This is where the caught fish is cut in pieces and put on the hook. This is a good bait and does attract catfish.

You will be able to find many homemade recipes on line and at your local library.

There are a variety of ready made catfish bait you can find on the shelves of any sporting goods department or bait shop. Take a look and see what is available in your area.

Now that we have discussed a variety of different catfish bait you can use. It is time to just get out there and start fishing. Good luck to you on your adventure catching the big catfish.
