Fitness Apps: Good Idea Or Not?

I am not usually one to crow about apps of any kind. I leave that for my tech happy pals who love to talk about the latest development from this company and that like it is all common knowledge. They also go on and on about operating systems and quite frankly they make my eyes glaze over and I start getting hungry. (Who is naming all of these things? Gingerbread? Ice cream sandwich? Come on, people, I elbow little kids out of the way for cake as it is. Help a girl out!) But, I have found some interesting apps and I enjoyed them so much, I thought I would give them a mention in a way. I am not naming names here. If they want me to talk up their apps, they can pay me. The end.

Most people have their phone with them all of the time, so why not make it work for you in some small way? That is where several of these apps come in. One of the best that I found and downloaded was very simple but has been very effective. Basically it tells me to drink more water. The app asked my height and weight and then calculated how much water I should be drinking every day. Every now and then this app "pours" me some water (you actually hear it) and I remember to drink. It will track how much water I drink and give me an average consumption after I have logged in a few days. So far, so good.

I found two that allowed me to set new goals for myself. One is to do fifty consecutive pushups (on my toes, no less) and the other is to do one hundred consecutive squats. Both apps work you up to your goal slowly. Today for instance, I did several sets of pushups until I hit thirty seven. At the end of the day's sets you evaluate- was it too hard, too easy or just right and the app will adjust your next day based on that response.

Most of the other apps that are on my "fitness screen" involve music and music players. I have one that will help me improve my runs after my knee is healed but I can't say anything about those just yet. I am excited about one, however and I probably will be back with info on it once I get to use it. I might even name that one it is that cool. So tell me, what are your favorite fitness apps?
