How To Use A Skipping/jump Rope For Fitness And Toning

I see myself as pretty fit consider I spend a lot of time (during the day) at a computer and night time working in kitchens, but I do find a lot of time for fitness especially through my Boxing training and one actually my one and only favorite tool and can not speak more highly about is my Skipping or as also called the Jump rope.

In my last article here at Street Articles entitled “Grab a jump rope and skip yourself fit” I talked about why I use a skipping rope and it's benefits but I never actually thought about how many people actually do not know how to use one and what techniques you can use, and though I am not personally beside you to correct you, maybe you will find some tips here that may help or inspire you to take a rope in to your hands and build up an amazing fitness that totally tones your body.

Using The Rope

1. Before you ever do any exercise, Always warm up and do a light stretch, especially your legs before you skip.

2. Stand infront of a mirror (no mirror, no problem) and hold the rope with a lose grip and it should feel nice and comfortable in your hands.

3. Breath nice and easy, keep your back straight and eyes looking forward.

4. Touch your sides with your elbows bringing your hands out at around a 90 degree angle and start swinging the rope jumping with your two feet and landing on the balls of your feet. Always keep your knees loose as in slightly bent, nice and easy keep swinging. It will become more smoother with the more practice you get.

5. Starting off we always jump to high, try jump just a few centimeters from the ground keeping that back straight and never land on your heels landing on the front of your feet so you can spread the impact through your knees and hips.

6. Practice and find your rhythm. Just keep at it, it eventually come and your pace will pick up with confidence.

7. Drink Drink Drink. Always stay hydrated to keep up energy levels.

As you progress you can start using new techniques like the Cross Over, the Double Under or the Ski Step and so on there are lots of ways to use the rope and all can be used to work different parts of your body. No matter what weight your are, using the rope can help you lose pounds (add in a balanced diet) or tone up your body and can even help with building muscle, which ever way you choose to use the rope, it truly is a great tool.
