Wearable tech has been around for a while now so it is no surprise that there was an element of this on display at this years Mobile World Congress event.
The MWC is the mobile phone industries key event each year to showcase future products to industry experts and this years event was held in Barcelona.
The smart watch and fitness bands were out in force so let’s take a look at the Sony SmartBand, FitBit Flex and Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit.
Sony SmartBand
The Sony SmartBand is a fashionable device that works in conjunction with a brand new Sony smartphone app called Lifelog.
Recording your calories burnt, exercise and activity the SmartBand is a great partner for anyone interested in fitness and a healthier lifestyle. In fact, it tracks a lot more than that as well from time spent listening to music, watching films and even sleeping.
The sleep function is further expanded with sleep cycle monitoring and an alarm that chooses the best time to wake you naturally with a gentle vibration of the watch.
Style wise Sony have cracked it this time around with a high quality metal fastening clip and a removeable body that can placed into one of numerous coloured bands to match and change your style.
FitBit Flex
The FitBit Flex syncs with your smartphone or PC / Mac and monitors your steps, distance, calories burnt and sleep cycles. How well you sleep is recorded along with the number of times you wake up and again wakes you naturally in the morning.
A series of built in LED lights can be used to track your progress against a goal with each light representing 20% of your target.
The FitBit Flex is waterproof just like the Sony SmartBand and will allow you, via the online tools, to log food and workouts, receive advise and see graphs and charts.
Your social life can included too as you may challenge and view the progress of friends or remove the small tracker and place it in another coloured band to match your style.
Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit
The Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit is probably the most premium looking of the three and hosts a curved glass Super AMOLED display with water and dust resistance.
Whilst the Galaxy Gear Fit encompasses all of the features of the other 2 devices, the addition of the screen widens its functionality from simply showing you the time like a real watch to displaying your heart rate in conjunction with the built in heart rate sensor.
This smart watch can be synced with a range of 17 Samsung devices and be used to control, for example, your smartphones media player.
Availability
The FitBit Flex is available now, the Sony SmartBand will be released prior to the end of March and there is no date yet for the Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit, which will undoubtedly be the most expensive of the three.
Definitely thinking of investing in the Galaxy Gear Fit!
