Electric radiant heating flooring is usually a mat mounted onto your sub floor that has electric running through it. Working on the theory that heat rises the heat begins in the floor and rises up to keep your room nice and warm with natural circulation. This type of heating is ideal for home additions or a remodel that makes it impractical to move the existing heating system.
With radiant heated floors invisible waves of radiated heat rise from below your flooring which warm up everything they contact. The objects such as the floor that take in this heat then radiate the heat into the air. While the air temperature remains the same you stay warm as the surrounding surfaces are not taking your body heat and are radiating heat this heat back into the air.
Some of the advantages of radiant heating flooring are:
• More efficient that baseboard heating and forced air heating because there is no loss of energy through duct work.
• People with severe allergies tolerate this type of heating due to the lack of moving air through dusty or dirty duct work.
• No noisy vents when your heat kicks on.
• Provides an even blanket of heat right where you want it.
• Electric radiant heated floors use standard household electric of 120 watts.
Depending on your skill set you can get radiant heated floors that are maintenance free and placed under a thin layer of mortar or placed under concrete. You put down the heating then place your concrete or mortar over the top of it making sure that it is semi level for the flooring to sit on. You then put your flooring over the top of the concrete or mortar.
If you are not skilled in the concrete trade then you may choose to go with a 2 in 1 system that has the underlayment and the heat coils all in one. This requires no mortar or concrete. Just place it where you want it and put your flooring over the top. You can also get radiant heating flooring without the underlayment build in that you can put into place and put your flooring choice directly over the top of the heating.
Electric radiant heating flooring is great for new construction or remodeling.
