Why We Need Diary Free Foods
When I found out my daughter was allergic to milk, she just started eating baby cereal I mixed with formula (she was breastfed until then). She turned into a little raspberry and threw everything up exorcist style, all over me! As soon as I cleaned her up,she was fine. The next time was when she had baby food with whey in it. I didn't know that whey was from milk... but there she went again, only it hit the floor this time. So I stayed away from the creamy desert foods, or the cheesy foods, but then she was a toddler...eating real food! I was in the grocery store for hours just trying to find food, snacks, BREAD, that didn't have milk in it. At the point in time, I was a mess, it just seemed like there was milk in everything. Where is all the diary free foods!!!Now I'm sure every mom or dad has been through this that has a kid with some kind of allergy. I think she was like four before I found cookies, and ice cream she could have. I am getting better at this everyday... baby steps right?
What's The Difference
I come across a lot of people that thought a milk allergy is just lactose intolerant... they would be wrong, and I always explain why with this example: My kid was in daycare and the child next to her spilled his milk on the table. Being two, they both splashed their hands in it like most kids would do, wipe their hands on their pants, and then it was nap time. Well, Mommy was called cause my kid was rubbing her eyes the whole nap time and her whole face was red and swollen, sneezing, and she was getting warm. They said- I swear she didn't drink milk- I asked, did she touch it... well, yes she did! So not only can she not eat it- she can not touch it or be touched my milk. Awwww... that's what your thinking- me too! You know what's the worst is when you are drinking your morning coffee and go in for a kiss goodbye on the cheek and get "not with your milk mouth mom"...at least she knows!
So I will stop the rambling about my baby and get on with this article...over the past six years I have come across ordinary foods that you can find at Almost every grocery store here in the U.S., and I wanted to take this time to share with everyone my knowledge on what my kid, who is allergic to milk, likes to eat!
